5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for
As a senior citizen, I am hopefully getting rid of alot of "stuff!" Thus the switch from two tall file cabinets to this 2-drawer letter file. So far, so good.

The change from a tri-level home on the Mohawk River to a two-room apartment in Senior Housing has been traumatic as you might imagine. So this new cabinet has been an incentive to sorting things...

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap construction
First of all it arrived in bad conditions from the seller. It was bent and had several bumps. The drawers won't fit and it feels just cheap. The key won't close the drawer and if I put files in it, the drawer might or might not slide from the construction and fall in front of your feet to the floor. Not really recommended.

Just the right height to hold my printer or scanner on top, creating my own little home office in a corner of the living room.

The product arrived in a timely manner, but the single lock on the bottom drawer is rather flimsy for high security storage. Normal, daily reports are fine to store in this file, but any security documents would require a stonger, double lock for practical use. Better securing of the handle screws in packaging would be a recommendation for future shipment too as two were missing from the shipment.

Worked perfectly for my extra files. Drawers open and close easily. Much more affordable than any of those sold at Staples

Quite satisfied with this filing cabinet. Cheaper than 99% of the others like it, it is perfect for my home office. Two drawers for filing household and personal documents. Lightweight metal - seems like it may dent easily if in a high-traffic location. However does the job without appearing too industrial/official in my home.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised & Flimsy, March 28, 2011

Originally ordered same exact item 6 months ago and was very happy. Re-ordered from the exact same listing... noticed that one of the two photos of the item had changed to what it presently is displayed as only... it was more expensive than another listed on this site with a different manufacturer name (appears to be same exact photo... but 20dollars cheaper, just look at similar items...) but, assumed it was the same one I had previously bought since I clicked on the same item and had the same model number and was same price. It came as a different much flimsier built filing cabinet that matched the other sold for 20 less.

Cons:
Drawers sway significantly to the left and right when open... When locked, I estimate that a 15 pound dog could pull the drawer open as if there was no lock there at all. Example: Upon first time locking... I couldn't unlock for 20 minutes as the locking mechanism apparently jammed or the key didn't fit adequately to overcome the inside parts catching on the metal of the drawer... and after that time I finally just gave up and tore the thing open easily without even pulling the cabinet forward from where it sat. (For those reading this who would like this explained in terms of engineering dynamics or basic physics: That basically means the force of the weight of the cabinet which you can refer to above as being very light comparatively to other two drawer cabinets, was still greater than the pulling force to tear the drawer open from its lock times the coefficient of friction of a standard office carpet...). The return policy is absurd... basically opening the package voids any return, and even unopened in many scenarios of their entire page return policy write-up... you have to pay for shipping.

Pros:
I easily banged the post-locked cabinet drawer back into place and I now store things in it unlocked that I want to store without looking at for an extended period of time and that I wouldn't mind being eaten by a toddler or stuff that could walk away never to be seen again without me losing sleep.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for basic filing needs, March 2, 2011

This is good for basic filing needs. I wouldn't put anything really important inside though. Not much protection from this. Robbers can just carry this with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased!, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Economical Home Office Two Drawer File - Hirsh Industries - 14341 (Office Product)
We bought two of these (or at least a very similar model) at Target for about $32 each. We were expecting some flaws and flimsiness issues, but we were really surprised. The finish on both of our file cabinets is flawless. The drawers work fine and I love the tall sides. We're not worried about locking our household records, so we have no issue with the lock, which seems fine for keeping casual snoopers or small children from opening the drawers.

As another reviewer said, the height is perfect for our printer. We put the printer on top of the side-by-side cabinets, and that arrangement has the added advantage of making sure the file cabinets don't tip if we happen to overload the top drawer and pull it all the way out (which is not a good idea for any file cabinet!).

The empty cabinets are quite lightweight but NOT flimsy. They were easy to carry up to our second-floor condo. The handles were pretty easy to attach, once I figured out that I should tighten the screw while it was flush against the inside of the drawer (I'm not very mechanically minded!); the second, third and fourth handles were easy, once I learned that trick. The drawers and cabinet are squared to each other; the fit is excellent.

To sum up: These are a great value. They look good. We recommend them without reservation.

(But shop around and check out what's available in local stores for this brand, too. Prices seem to vary wildly!)

Pretty cheaply made. Remember to buy file folders as well. You also have to screw the handles on.
