Book Description

April 8, 2009 0073511293 978-0073511290 19th
Samuelson's text was first published in 1948, and it immediately became the authority for the principles of economics courses. The book continues to be the standard-bearer for principles courses, and this revision continues to be a clear, accurate, and interesting introduction to modern economics principles. Bill Nordhaus is now the primary author of this text, and he has revised the book to be as current and relevant as ever.

This is a thorough and readable intro to economics without obvious bias regarding different vies of macroeconomic policies. I actually read some unassigned material out of interest.

Felt the textbook my college switched to was too shallow. I bought and read Samuelson, and loved it! Very rigorous, & interesting!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done May 10, 2011
By Marissa
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I had to order this for a class (although isn't that the case with most textbooks?). Being an econ text, I had low expectations. But I was pleasantly surprised. This book is written in (mostly) plain English. The chapters are just as long as they need to be. And although it provides the complicated math mumbo-jumbo, for those who would understand it, the authors certainly do not focus on it. I'm about to embark on my MPP and may hold on to this as a reference for the duration of my student days.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sameulson started this new edition trick years ago August 27, 2010
Format:Hardcover
This Nobel price winning economist used his genius and came up with the new edition trick. Now it has become common practice in the textbook business. They come up with new editions often with little substantial changes and charge high prices. When I was going to college in the 70s he was already doing it. Over the years this craft has been refined into an art form; pity the poor parents and students.
