Killer riffs, awesome acoustics / guitars, and lyrics so full of meaning you'll want to read the booklet until you memorize them all. This is up there as album of the year! Gritty rock made to blast with your windows down. Thank you JMM & crew for making a great record, beginning to end!! WOW.

The simple raw music power and style of John Mark and his band continues to amaze me. His lyrics and the billowing guitars make for an unforgettable listening experience.

Most Christian music is lame. All too often it's syrupy "Happy happy joy joy - Jesus is my boyfriend - la la la la la" which gets tiresome really fast. John Mark McMillan is such a shining exception to the norm, he doesn't even warrant comparison to most Christian music. No, the real comparison is Bruce Springsteen and U2.I found out about McMillan's previous album, "The Medicine" from my friend Jim, an avid music lover who is not a Christian. Jim heard it on his brother-in-law's iPod. Jim's relative is not a Christian either. Sorry for what this says about the current state of Christian music, but "The Medicine" is just that good. It couldn't have come soon enough and this new album is as good as the previous one. "Economy" has a gritty resonance that's meticulously crafted, yet never over-produced. Sometimes soulful and meditative, sometimes combative and visceral. Yes, you could compare McMillan to Springsteen and U2, even Emmylou Harris. But that's not the first thing that came to my mind. My first impression was, "This guy has his *own* singular personality. He's logged his 10,000+ hours in the musical woodshed and he's truly found his own voice." Instantly recognizable. Reading between the lines, I hear someone who has far more ideas than he can possibly express in a single context but who has the discipline to hone each work of art down to its essence. McMillan is the kind of artist where you buy every album and follow him artistically because he's going to blaze new trails. I wouldn't be surprised if his next album is an evolution that puzzles his existing fans because he knows he must transport them to a new place. This album will lift you to higher musical ground. Whether you grok Christian music or not, you'll find yourself listening repeatedly and hearing something new each time. Get yourself a copy and see if this music doesn't seep into your mind and heart. You'll catch yourself not only singing catchy hooks, but meditating on thoughts much deeper.

John Mark is the real deal. I can't stop listening to the Medicine and Economy. I seen them warm up David Crowder and the whole show was great. I hope they come back to MI. Thanks for the great music.

Stellar Album,

Upon the first listen, I was disappointed... I had seen so many great acoustic versions of these songs, as John was posting videos of them on his Facebook account.I was really expecting something that felt really raw, really, gritty, something like the Medicine or the videos I had watched.' Now, weeks later, having listened to this nearly non-stop now, I have fallen in love with this album. Nearly every song is just, phenomenal, executed perfectly, so well thought out. Every word sung with a degree of soul and just, commitment, that I don't hear too often. That grittiness, that raw feeling I was expecting, it exists, very much so, on this record, but in a way different from what I was expecting. Grit, a rawness to the music and the words, those are things that I feel are very much and will remain very much a part of John's music. I didn't say too much about this, but I really do challenge anyone and everyone to give this record a try. It's, frankly, just real good music.
