 Information on Green Products
A growing number of manufacturers are producing green home cleaning products that are healthier and more environmentally responsible. Currently, there is no industry standard definition for natural cleaners. The manufacturers of products in our Green Store have represented that they are not tested on animals, come in recyclable packaging, and contain ingredients that are non-toxic, biodegradable, and free of petrochemicals. You will find the ingredients for these cleaning products clearly listed on our web site or the product package. Paper or plastic items in our Green Store are ones that the manufacturer states are either 100% biodegradable or made from 100% recyclable material. Batteries featured in our Green Store are ones that that manufacturer has indicated are rechargeable.

It cleans well, is very gentle, and smells great.

The company doesn't bother to list the toxic ingredients on the bottle and the only way to find out what they are is to visit Ecover's website.

I've never tried this brand of dish soap before and decided to buy it in bulk. I love the fact that it doesn't have toxic ingredients in it and it still gets the job done. I've noticed that one person felt that it didn't suds up well, but that can be fixed by adding a little bit of baking soda to the dish water. It has a faint lemon smell to it that is pleasant and not at all overpowering like the conventional dish soaps that one would buy from the regular grocery stores. The only problem that I have is that the bottles weren't filled to the top, other than that, I love it.

Update: May 2, 2012
I am changing my rating to 1 star because I just learned that this dish soap isn't as eco-friendly as I thought. I was looking at other Ecover dish soap on here and read that the company uses certain ingredients that aren't so eco-friendly. I am completely disappointed that there are a lot of so-called green companies that are green-washing for their own benefit. I've had enough of it. I, along with tons of other people want to have better products to clean our homes and we don't want to be led to believe that a product is green when in fact it has the same toxic chemicals that other cleaners have that could easily be bought at a regular grocery store. I will use the dish soap simply because I paid good money for it and don't have money to waste, but this will be my first and only time buying this dish soap. What a complete let down! The company doesn't bother to list the toxic ingredients on the bottle and the only way to find out what they are is to visit Ecover's website. This is very deceitful and makes me not trust a company who chooses to hide their ingredients. Such a shame.

Overall, I have been very satisfied with this dishwashing liquid. It cleans well, is very gentle, and smells great. It has a pleasant lemon scent that does not overwhelm you. According to Ecover, the product is made out of natural substances versus chemicals so you might be doing the environment a favor.

However, the reason I give it 4/5 stars is that more dishwashing liquid is required per use. Because it rinses so well, the liquid comes off the sponge and more needs to be applied. At the price Amazon is selling it, this is not a problem. It makes for a great hand soap as well unlike conventional dishwashing soaps.

Another great product by Ecover. Effective sudsing & cleaning, safe for the environment & smells great too....so much so that my children are enjoying washing their hands because of the smell as well as being gentle on the skin. I decided to buy this & try it because I like citrus scented cleaners. The smell is not strong but light & fragrant. I do seem to put a little more in the sink to get the suds I'm used to but it effectively cleans all my dishes & the grease from by microwave bacon cooker without any problems. The benefits of using this soap far out weigh the cost of using a litte more. AND, although not recommended by dishwasher manufacturs, I add about 1 ml (couple of drops) to the beginning of the dishwasher cycle along with the Ecover Tab placed in the main cycle cup. My dishwasher has two cups and the Ecover Tab is recommended in the main cycle only. I feel better having the extra cleaning power & it doesn't create enough suds to overflow my dishwasher.

ANY SOAP that can get my kids to wash their hands without me having to remind them deserves 5 STARS!

The Amazon page for this dishwashing liquid says: "Ecover Discloses All Ingredients: Plant Based Anionic and Non-ionic Tensio-active Surfactants, Water, Aloe Vera, Plant Based Fragrance (Lemon), Salt, Citric Acid and 100% Biodegradable Preservative." But when I received it, I noticed that the ingredient list on the bottle says, "Aqua, Sodium laureth sulfate, Lauryl glucoside, Sodium chloride, Sodium benzoate, Citric acid, Fragrance* [*100% natural fragrance], Limonene, Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice, hyrolized wheat protein, Citral. " Sodium laureth sulfate is an ingredient derived from ethoxylated lauryl alcohol. It has been classified by Environmental Working Group as "expected to be toxic or harmful" for "Organ system toxicity". It also has impurity concerns regarding Ethylene oxide and 1,4 Dioxane. My understanding is that SLS may originally come from something like coconut oil but is processed with petroleum, turned into an alcohol and then derived from there. A label announcing its full disclosure that it entirely different than the actual label is misleading.

I've been using e-cover dish washing soap for over 5 years, it has been getting worse and I have to keep adding soap to my tub as it loses its suds quickly. It won't cut the grease either. We just tried 7th Generation and it is far superior. I'll never buy e-cover again.

I tried this after being disappointed by 7th generation dish soap and the ecover is a step up in my opinion. however, it doesn't suds very much and doesn't seem to clean that well with just a little. Forget about it when my husband is doing dishes -- he goes through a ton of this. It's hard to find locally and the s/h is expensive if I buy online. I ended up trying Trader Joe's and liking that. Palmolive and Clorox also now have "eco" dish soap that is free of petroleum based products and the Clorox one is okay. Haven't tried Palmolive. they are available at grocery stores and big chain stores.

We use ecover laundry soap, fabric softener, dishwasher powder tablets, as well as floor soap, 7th generation all purpose cleanser spray, method hand soap, so it's not that I am anti-ecover or not used to environmentally friendly products.
