Definite read,

Ecstasy was a fun and different book to read. Charlie is an erotic writer who has a hard time find a woman to date who doesn't think he's a pig. He meets Candace at a writer's conference. She's decided to find out if she has what it takes to be an erotic writer. The relationship between the two of them was great. I loved the little lessions he gave her about sex and reading about their stories they were each writing inside the big story of the two of them was fun also. The only thing that seemed strange was when Charlie found out about something Candace did and was upset about it, but then two seconds later he wasn't mad. Other than that, the book was a great read.

Still shaking my head on this one. I've heard some great things about Bella Andre and I started with Ecstasy because it was a free read. I'm glad I did. I thought the writing was elementary at best with little character development, cheesy dialogue, and unrealistic/unbelievable plotting. I read quite a bit of erotic romance. This was neither erotic nor romantic. The language used was crass, not sexy. The character's internal dialogue was laughable. Worse yet, anyone who has even a basic understanding of BDSM would be appalled...
SPOILERS... to have a first sexual encounter with bondage, blindfolds and hot wax after one meeting and no discussion is ridiculous and quite frankly, irresponsible of the author. One minute Charlie's thinking to himself how inexperienced Candy is and how careful he needs to be and the next he's pouring hot wax on her bound body??? To be fair I was pretty checked out after references to her "muff", her breasts being like "lush melons" and when the first sex scene ended with, "Sweetheart, you are definitely an A+ student." gag. Maybe it got better but I didn't have it in me to do more than skim the next two chapters and then give up entirely. This is the first book I've stopping reading before finishing and will be my first Kindle delete. If you want good erotic romance check out Lorelei James and her "Rough Riders" series, Jayne Rylon, or Lora Leigh's "Bound" series. If you want to read good (and responsible) BDSM stories, I'd highly recommend Cherise Sinclair's Mountain Masters series. Good luck and happy reading.

This was a great book it was fast paced with character development and a real plot. you don't often find that in erotica. I do think this book should have been labeled a little better because it is romantic erotica not just contemporary romance. I think that might have helped in the reviews. if your not looking for lots of sexy scenes and in graphic detail you might want to skip this one but if that is what your looking for it is one of the better reads.

Surprisingly literate,
By Vanessa Wu (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ecstasy (A Contemporary Romance) (Kindle Edition)
Every so often I download a batch of free ebooks from Amazon and trawl through them looking for some good writing. Normally I dismiss them after just a few sentences.
This one surprised me because it was literate and fluent. I read it very fast and I was quite entertained. I did a little research on the author and it turns out she is doing very well. This ebook will now cost you a dollar or two, so she is obviously working hard at the marketing. The book was more or less error-free but the prose is a little loose. For example: [Begin quote] His enjoyment, he thought ruefully, may have sprung from his intense desire to see Candace wrapped in the silks, velvets and satins he purchased. Or, more to the point, his even more intense desire to unwrap her. He tried to shake the image of Candace naked with her legs spread wide open before him, begging for him to ram his cock inside her. He needed to focus on the task at hand. [End quote] Yeah, shake that image, Charlie boy! This is a romance in which the man and the woman are both writers of soft porn. Now, when I read a novel I want to escape from the mundane real world that is my daily grind! This is just a small niggle. The characters are not very interesting or credible, even though Ms. Andre is clearly writing about what she knows, but she is clearly a capable author who is raising the standard for self-published romance novels. This is better than some Harlequin novels I've read anyway, although that's not saying very much.

This book started out with promise. I like that the author addressed the "taboo" of romance writers and their struggle to be taken seriously within the writing community. I also like that what started out as instruction soon turned into passion. I mean, who hasn't had that fantasy?
The problem I had was that while the sparks between the characters certainly fly, the chemistry between them was lacking. There was no denying that they lusted after each other and the author writes some amazing, steamy scenes. I just couldn't really imagine their relationship moving past the sex.

Not my kind of story,

I got this book because it was free. There wasn't really much to this story than just something written to have characters have sex. It is an erotica story but some have a story around them that lead to the sex scenes. I ended up skimming through the book. To me it wasn't worth reading. I didn't find chemistry between the characters. But everyone has different taste in books so I'd say take a chance and read a sample before downloading it.

I've read many of Bella Andre's books, and this one did not disappoint. Story moves fast, and boy, the steam is coming out of my kindle! Story is about Charlie who is a seasoned erotica writer and Candy, who is a writer who is just starting out in the genre. Charlie has become quite famous and successful, yet he has a difficult time finding a good girl, they are usually interested in his money, or think he is a perv for his line of work. Candy was a young writer with very big aspirations. She wanted to become a good erotic writer so she attends her first erotic writer's conference where she literally runs into Charlie. Charlie was very attracted to Candy, ever since she was laying on top of him. He offered to show her around the conference. While hanging out, he discovers that not only is he attacted to her, but he wants to get to know her better.
During the conference, he was avoiding this woman so he told everyone that Candace was his apprentice this year. He would show her the ropes per se. They start their lessons soon enough and find themselves involved physically, for the sake or "research" and are soon hooked. They both love being together, yet none of them are brave enough to discuss feelings. In the meantime, Candy gets inspired and begins to write a new book based on her experiences with Charlie. They both agreed to keep everything among themselves so she felt she was betraying him. Will he find out about her book? Can they both really be in love or lust? That is for the reader to find out.... Steamy scenes were plenty and also very hot! Characters were likeable and I found this book enjoyable, although Game for love continues to be my favorite book from Ms. Andre! |
