...Temptation is powerful, but the will to defend and protect is even greater. With the enemies of the Jaded Gentlemen closing in on them both, Rowan must figure out how to save the woman he now loves. But saving her life might mean giving her up entirely. Find out what happens to a strange and powerful new romance in Ecstasy Wears Emeralds. Bernard, best known for her historical fiction work, invites you to join her characters in mid-nineteenth century London, the setting for this story. She possesses a strong and unique voice in her writing and she portrays well-developed female characters who tend to be distinct from the more typical women in historical fiction, especially when it comes to the romance genre. Look for Bernard's Ecstasy Wears Emeralds, available in book stores now and ideal for any avid reader of sensual romance, specifically historical romance. For anyone unfamiliar with Bernard's previous work, her stories will have appeal for anyone who enjoys fiction with elements of spicy intimacy and an intriguing sense of depth.
Historical Romance -Sept. 6th, 2011

Ecstasy Wears Emeralds is the third book in the Jaded Gentlemen series, which features six young men who escaped from the dungeons in India with jewels that bring harm to them. However, this story can be easily read by itself.
Dr. Rowan West is exhausted after a call to his patient's home. With his head pounding, he just wants to go home and rest. But instead he is confronted by the beautiful Miss Gayle Renshaw who threatens to expose his past unless he takes her as an apprentice. When Gayle continue to badger him (even though it's unheard of for a woman to become a doctor in 1859), Rowan decides to show her the error of her ways and accepts her as his apprentice. He plans to work her so hard that she will quit on her own. But, the willful and highly intelligent Gayle keeps exceeding every one of his expectations. Will Rowan finally help Gayle achieve her lifelong goal and win over Gayle's heart? When a series of murder attempts on the `Jaded Gentlemen' occurs, can Rowan keep Gayle safe?
I was genuinely surprised by how easy to read and enjoyable this book is. I really liked the medical background in this novel and all the rich historical details about Rowan and Gayle's work. It's amazing to think how far the medical field has come since those days! Rowan is also the perfect male hero, sweet, considerate and yet tough when he needs to be. I like the fact that although he disagrees with the male thinking of that time, he is realistic about Gayle's prospect in the medical field and tells her very honestly. Unfortunately, Gayle is so brash and headstrong that sometimes I feel like she didn't deserve Rowan.Read more ›
I really enjoyed this book - I think it is the best of the "Jaded" series. I loved the very different slant on historical romance that gave us a look into the world of medicine in early Victorian times. I enjoyed Gayle's persistent character and loved Rowan, who is a real sweetie. The love affair was emotional and sexy. So why, do you ask, have I given the book 4 stars instead of 5? The reason is that I didn't enjoy the murder aspect of the plot. To my mind, it distracted from the development of the love affair and added little to the story. Spoiler: I also felt Gayle was left up in the air....we never found out if she went on to be a doctor. I would have liked less emphasis on dastardly dealings and more time spent on the development of Gayle as a doctor and the relationship between Rowan and Gayle as she grows into the role. A great read but not quite a keeper for me.
