Product Description

(Burseara Graveolens) Palo Santo or "Holy Stick" is a natural wood aromatic incense used for centuries by the Incas and indigenous people of the Andes as a spiritual remedy for purifying and cleansing, as well as to get rid of evil spirits and misfortune. as well as for medicinal purposes. It has a fine citrus aroma with underlying notes of frankincense, its close relative. It is often used by shamans in sacred plant spirit ceremonies. Our Palo Santo is sustainably wild harvested from a reserve in Ecuador from naturally fallen trees and branches that lie dead for 4-10 yrs. before they are harvested. We sell it by weight which translates to 10-15 semi-uniform sticks per package approximately 4 in. long and 1/4 to 1/2 in. diameter.

These sticks are a pretty great alternative to incense - the sticks aren't processed at all, are aesthetically pleasing, have a great smell, & last significantly longer than incense.
Someone in a previous review asked "how do you keep them burning, mine seem to go out after about 10 seconds?"
Well first of all, if you want it to smoke longer, you have to keep it lit and get hotter before you blow it out - that way it'll smoke for longer. That being said, it's not supposed to smoke for the extent of the stick like a piece of incense might when lit. This is, after all, a piece of wood - and it acts accordingly. So while it may not smoke longer than a few minutes if very hot, it will produce A LOT of smoke/scent in that amount of time. The smell is like a cedar honey coconut fireplace - without smelling fake. A relaxing wood fire smell with a twist - very calming.

I've given many of my friends a stick or two and they all reeeally enjoyed them and asked how to get more.

I developed a taste for the fragrance of Palo Santo wood and really grew to like it based on some initial sticks I got from a friend who had purchased it from Shaman's Market

However, I found that the sticks I got (directly rather than through Amazon) were not the same quality. I ended up returning them and getting a refund without any fuss from a very cooperative customer support representative.

This is a problem that Palo Santo has -- they often smell fragrant until you light them up and then they sometimes have this terrible rancid almost burnt rubber smell. I am not sure why this happens sometimes but it is a bummer when it does.

My experience is that often the lighter colored sticks have the best fragrance - it may be possible that we are using up all the best stock and now we are forced to go to lower quality sticks.

Anyway be careful as Palo Santo can be tricky

I've burning Palo for years. This stuff is horrid. I'm guessing it is a different kind of wood with a few drops of oil. In fact I've been trying all of these on Amazon and seems a real scam with Palo. Trikilo was good a few years ago but it seems it also has now a burnt
smell and in my opinion is not the real deal. I'm thinking they all are just adding a few drops of oil on pieces of wood and passing it
as light stuff. What a easy fast way to make money. Either that or they are all extremely old. I wish I had the authentic old pieces to see if they in fact dry out or age which could possibly explain the poor quality of most of the ones I've sampled on Amazon.
Yes, these smell for about 30 sec. (like an oil burning off-nice) but after that it is not a nice smell. Nothing like the incredible essence
of true palo. I actually can't believe people can sell this stuff and call it the real thing.

Disgusting. It reeks of cheap chemical and coconut oil. Not sure this is truly Palo Santo wood.
Filled my house with a disgusting, nauseating odor that gave everyone a headache.

Fake product, terrible odor even before burning, and while burning it was really grose. :( It must be soaked in chemicals. It also smoked in black. It saddens me that anyone would make a copy of such a sacred plant.

These are not the same quality as Peruvian palo santo sticks. The scent is harsh and bitter, not luxurious and sweet like sticks from Peru.

Very nice, subtle aroma. A little hard to keep lit, but you really don't need to burn them long to get the benefits from it
