This review is from: Ed Wood Story:Plan 9 Companion [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If you loved "Plan 9 from outer space" then you must see that tape. Funny thing, it's much longer than the movie. You'll learn everything about the making of the movie, the actors and Ed Wood himself. You always thought the flying saucers of the movies were hubcap? Well, the tape reveal all the secrets of "Plan 9". It'a must see for all the fans of Ed Wood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ed Wood, Anti-Genius!, March 28, 2004
This review is from: Ed Wood Story:Plan 9 Companion [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This documentary examines the directorial history of Ed Wood with particular attention to the filming of 'Plan 9'. It is an interesting documentary shot in the early 1990s and features quite a bit of previously unseen footage, as well as interesting location shots and interviews with former Wood colleagues such as Vampira and Paul Marco.

The film obviously has great reverence for Wood's work, and fundamentally gives the picture of Wood as a nice guy (despite issues with cross-dressing and alcohol) who was well liked but was somewhat manic about his pictures. My biggest regret about Wood is that he died before he achieved the huge fame that he has today; fame that would have certainly been beyond his wildest expectations.

This documentary is an entertaining and informative look at Wood as a person and a director. It is totally fair and balanced: it never tries to hide his faults, but always gives him credit for his genuine achievements.

I think that the Ed Wood collection contains some of the most bizarre and innovative (if ineptly made in every manner) works in American motion picture history. They are bad, true, but they are a good kind of bad, a kind of bad that allows repeated viewing without ever becoming bored.

There will never be another Ed Wood.
