i bought this at target and took it back immediately. first i couldn't get it to turn on, turns out you have to jiggle the batteries a couple times to get them to make good contact (just think about how good this would be to have in a moving car or hiking). finally got it to turn on, and the backlight is so dinky. in the time of indiglo, why does this thing have a tiny green light that doesn't even light up the whole screen? the entire casing is plastic (?) as it's very light and feels like it would shatter very easily (aka, great thing to have when you're lost camping and trip and drop your pack...) they also expect you to have a miniscule screwdriver so you can strip the tiny screw on the back as you're trying to put in the batteries. grrrr. all of these issues made me really wonder exactly how good the compass itself worked...if it had the same low-quality standards, it's not my ideal guide if i'm lost in the woods.

the short summary: buy this if you have lotsa money and want to get a cool looking piece of garbage for your kid to play with and break. if you're looking for a reliable digital compass that will last you a long time, take my advice and look for a better-quality product.

I can not believe the poor craftmanship with which this was constructed. Little thought was given to replacing batteries.

This reflect poorly on the name of eddie bauer which i have till this moment held in high esteem.

I can't beleive how cheaply this item is constructed. Mine also went back on the same day. DON'T BUY THIS!

This product is a toy masquerading as an instrument. The compass is inaccurate, seldom getting within 20 degrees of true direction, and is often off by 30 to 35 degrees. The clock does not keep good time either, and is difficult to set. Each time an adjustment is needed, one must get out the instructions that came with it (if you still have them, if not you are the proud owner of a new paper weight).
