I ordered this harness based on the reviews for the regular (boy?) monkey, which I have seen in local stores before. This one is super cute and I'm assuming made the same as the other one. It is so soft and silky - my 17 month old hugged it right away and did not seem to mind wearing it at all. I also carry her in a back carry baby carrier, so she is thrilled to have her own "back pack". Neither I (5'4"), my husband, or the babysitter (both 5'7") find the tail too short, as some complained about on the other reviews. She is also not strong enough to undo the buckles at this time, even though she has been very interested in buckles for a couple of months. Overall this was a great price and is so adorable and useful that I can't imagine anyone making rude comments about it being a "leash". Taking a trip to the aquarium soon, so I guess we'll find out. ;-)

UPDATE 9/12/12: I used this at the airport last week and it worked wonderfully. My daughter especially enjoyed pushing the carry-on pullman while I walked beside her virtually hands-free! Sometimes, she would fall forward a bit when tugged, due to the placement of the "tail", as reviews of the other monkey harness have stated. I too wish the straps would go tighter, but my daughter has been walking for about 6 months now, so I don't really need full control of her. I do think this is meant for a confident walker. Oh, and the people who commented thought it was cute and wished they had one with their child(ren)!

Brought these for my twin girls, who are 15 months and love to run in opposite directions. They are very cute, seem well made, but I can't tighten the straps enough to get them to fit snuggly on my girls - and they aren't petite, 75th percentile for weight and height! Because of this they squirm and pull at the straps, and don't walk properly in them. Am keeping them in the hope that they will fit better as they grow.

Update June 2014

- I can't believe I didn't give these a better review originally!! By the time the girls were 19 months and steady enough on their feet for me to ditch the stroller and use these going in and out of buildings/stores etc, they fitted just fine and the girls walked great in them. Now at almost three the girls can be trusted not to run off in parking lots, and to walk sensibly on sidewalks so we don't tend to use them, but for a long time these were used constantly. I always, without fail, took the time to put these on them before I got them out of the car. I slipped my hand through the loop on the end of the tail, then let go and held my girls hands, one on each side. I ALWAYS made them hold my hand, the harness is just there as a fail safe, you still need to teach your child to walk safely. If they ever tried to bolt, which toddlers will do, they got a slap on the hand. It didn't happen often, and now they walk beautifully and SAFELY and we don't need these any more. A brilliant aid to help you in teaching your child to be safe. With twins they were absolutely essential (EVERY other Mom in my Multiple Moms group uses these too), but even if you just have the one child and two hands, I would still urge you to get one of these, and to take the time to always put it on.

This child leash served its purpose plus so much more! My husband and I purchased this product to aide us in flying with our children across this country with multiple transfers and extremely busy airports. It felt a lot safer having these on my daughters being in such a large crowd because I am always worried about getting separated or worse, lost. Not only did these provide security but also a backpack, a pillow and a buddy for my girls to play with. Overall a great product and I am a very satisfied customer!

My 15month.old twin.girls love their monkey backpack! I put it on them without the tail (leash) on at first so they could get used to it. But they loved out right away. Now I feel.so much safer while I'm.by myself with these two in public while my husband is away..

my two year old is a runner and she gets pretty fast if i have other things in my hand. I decided to get this after she ran in the parking lot. Holding her hand never worked because she would wriggle and squirm and slip away. This is the best purchase I have made and she loves her monkey. Judge me if you want but I have security in knowing she cant go far and wont be getting hit by any cars.

I was hesitant to purchase a harness because of the mixed opinions and reviews from family members and friends, but I don't feel guilty about using this in public because I'd rather feel slightly embarrassed and keep my child safe when first learning to stay close to mom and dad rather than the alternative. It's worth it!

I bought this when she was around a year old, she started walking at 10 months, and the troller was basically a no-go for her. It was a little big at first, but now she is 2.5 and it fits much better. Gives them more freedom and you the control. She called it her Gunky.

This was perfect for my daughter's first experience at the airport. I never had to worry that she would get lost. Everyone thought that she looked so cute wearing it.
