Eddie Bauer Newport Collection Rocking Wood Bassinet

I ordered this bassinet because it would fit neatly beside the bed and since it could be rocked. Having a bassinet that can rock can be a big plus, as some babies are easily calmed by the motion.

The downside to the bassinet is that it arrived with broken wheels. We took it to Babies r Us and they graciously reordered another one for us.

I have two of these bassinets, because I have twins. I bought them because I couldn't spend $400 per bassinet to get the ones I wanted. And based on lots of internet shopping, this one seemed less ugly than many other choices and could roll. However, I find it's too cheap and I don't think well designed. First off, the item is fairly difficult to put together with tons of parts and the usual mediocre instructions. It took several hours for each of them, even the second one when I already knew how to put it together. There's one step where you'll likely need a second helper because it involves holding all four sides to jam into holes at once. Honestly, I don't know why the manufacturers of baby items insist on torturing parents like this. The bassinet is made of extremely cheap synthetic materials, particularly the mattress which is less than an inch thick, polyurethane foam covered in cheap plastic. The frame is not wood, but that mdf stuff. Because of the design and cheap mattress,there is little to no support for the baby. This is because there's no flat wood bottom to the bassinet, something you can't tell from the picture, it's simply the cloth canopy suspending the baby with metal bar girds the bottom lengthwise. Perhaps firm support isn't needed for actual newborns, but you can see why the manufacturer tells you it doesn't take more than 15 lbs (also something I didn't realize until I got the box open). The sheet it comes with is scratchy, cheap and not appealing. The canopy or whatever it's called is made of a cheap synthetic material, but worse it doesn't stay on the item properly. Because of the strange design, it's near to impossible to get the velcro strips to meet behind the bars on the end. An active baby could kick it enough and get covered in it, so this may be a candidate for a recall at some point. AND, this canopy cover thingy which is all one piece can't be machine washed because of the metal bars in the canopy, and I'm not even sure it can be removed without taking the whole thing apart. It comes out of the box all wrinkly so it looks like crap. I would not buy one of these items over the internet based on this experience, you need the opportunity to inspect the item in person. One of the bassinets was missing a piece of hardware, so I had to call and get a new set, that was easy and the manufacturer was helpful.

Even though I used it very few weeks, I love that you can move the bassinet from room to room steadily.
The bottom part is also very useful to put things your baby needs. The mat is comfortable. I like this product
