5.0 out of 5 stars "TENDER YEARS" AND "WILD SUMMER NIGHTS" ARE BACK!
I feel that it is my duty to inform all fans of "Eddie and the Cruisers" that Volcano Entertainment has just reissued the CD, complete with "Tender Years" and "Wild Summer Nights" in all their glory! This CD puts the previous Scotti Bros. release (which left these two great songs off) to shame. Buy this today! Thanks to everyone involved...

3.0 out of 5 stars WHAT HAPPENED TO "WILD SUMMER NIGHTS" AND "TENDER YEARS"?
Outstanding music from a very under rated band. Because "Wild Summer Nights" and "Tender Years" were missing, I dropped my rating from 5 stars to 3. Except for "On The Dark Side", "Tender Years was the best song in the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Volcano Got It Right....Ignore The Printed Track Listing, January 18, 2005
This review is from: Eddie & The Cruisers - Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Eddie and the Cruisers came out a year before Streets Of Fire would be the next project for actor Michael Pare in another rock n' roll film with an awesome soundtrack to boot. The movie about the disappearance of a (fictional) leader of a rock band was not too shabby ( I only saw it on cable a couple of times)...Point being, both soundtracks (hand in hand) I would highly recommend to any an avid music collector to prove that the 80's music was not all commercialized-synthesized shlock. Both retro in sound to the 50's and 60's with a contemporary edge that have stood the test of time exceptionally well !

Many have compared Eddie & The Cruisers/John Cafferty soundtrack to Springsteen's and the E Band's work (hopefully as compliment and not as a rip off).Let's just say the Boss is the Boss and John Cafferty is John Cafferty. John Cafferty and his band were/are anything but a rip off. He has this very distinct knack for writing original and performing his material with plenty of hooks and upbeat melodies. His vocals are also easily recognized. They seem to have the tough rebellious rockin' edge to them when called for and yet that controllable warm vocal range that allows him to do a great ballad like Tender Years! The Beaver Brown Band can do no wrong---the sheer artistry and musical synergy between JC & BBB is a great musical force unto itself.

The Volcano company did include ALL the right tracks that were on the original vinyl pressings and cassette versions. The only small quirk (which in no way affects playback or has deleted anything) is the way the tracks are physically/digitally numbered on the disc; they do not correspond with the printed listing on the back cd cover. Does this matter? Heck no...but I was ready to return the cd before I listened to it's entirety. I thought the track Hang Up My Rock N' Roll Shoes had been deleted and that Season In Hell (Fire Suite) had been cut down to only two mintues plus (scratching my head like crazy)! Volcano has kept Hang Up My Rock N' Roll Shoes as part of Down On My Knees track (as one big track). Season In Hell (Fire Suite) has been split into two separate tracks (again, no sweat ,the suite/track still blends smoothly---no breaks or "cuts"). Believe me, I was ready to take my copy back to the cd music store...

The mystery of why this soundtrack was not released in it's correct entirety in the first place is like the mystery surrounding Eddie's disappearance in the film (though, we the buying public can draw many a conclusion of our own why the screw ups occurred with the initial cd release). As for the Volcano version and the other version that many felt ripped off by (two tracks missing), there will be no surprise if in time another version is released with additional material (definitive soundtrack)...Aye, aye, aye, the things record companies do to drive us buyers nuts !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars TENDER YEARS AND WILD SUMMER NIGHTS ARE BACK!, December 23, 2001
This review is from: Eddie & The Cruisers - Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I owned this on cassette in my younger days. After it finally wore out I never replaced it due to Tender Years and Wild Summer Nights being omitted. To my surprise I was browsing through a Borders location last week and found the soundtrack to be re-released with all original tracks. If Amazon wants to sell more copies they better drop the original and start selling the Volcano release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome soundtrack!, September 19, 2003

This is an amazing soundtrack. I love all of the songs on it. For all of you who are disappointed because the two best songs from the movie were not included on your copy of the soundtrack there is good news. The soundtrack has been rereleased and it includes both 'wild summer nights' and 'tender years' on it. Those two songs are by far my favorites from the movie and they are the reason why the soundtrack gets five stars from me. It's great!

Obviously, this is a soundtrack that in it's original form is one of the best movie soundtracks of its era. I read a couple of the reviews and found that two of the best songs had been left off( for copyright reasons ) the most recent pressing. I'd like to say, that I am thankful for AMAZON.COM!! Despite the reviews others had left about this version, I went ahead and ordered anyway... I was not disappointed :) When it arrived, I found that they(AMAZON.COM) had tracked down an original Volcano pressing with all original tracks intact! THANK YOU... I am very satisfied, and enjoying Wild Summer Nights as I type. Amazon.com ROCKS!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best soundtrack of all time, but ...., December 15, 1999

I absolutely love the cruisers soundtracks but. As most Cruisers and Cafferty fans realise, Scotti Bros. left Tender Years and Wild Summer Nights off the new version of this disc. This has something to do with copyright laws and the fact that this was John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band's first sinngle released even before the movie or the soundtrack came out.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Spirit of Eddie Lives On, January 5, 2000

My review is based on the vinyl recording which has Wild Summer Nights and Tender Years. The music is alive with spirit and emotion. Its really a shame John Cafferty and Beaver Brown only received modest success for the music. The musical arrangements and the vocals are always are very much apprecaited as they can allow one to reflect upon those special tender years of high school and college which can shape ones social adaptation to the world we live in. This record succedes admirably on all these accounts.

4.0 out of 5 stars TENDER YEARS.....WHERE IS IT?????!!!!!!!!!, June 7, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Eddie & The Cruisers - Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I used to own this soundtrack back in the 80's. With VH-1 showing "Eddie and the Cruisers" as of late, it prompted me to buy the soundtrack again, but no "Tender Years?" That song is one of the greatest ballads ever recorded, bar none. Why isn't it on the soundtrack? Why is it so damn hard to find?????

5.0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC ALBUM: EDDIE AND CRUISER SOUNDTRACK, January 9, 2005
By
This review is from: Eddie & The Cruisers - Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I was totally blown away from the sound
that came from John Cafferty's songs
On the film that gave him the exposure
to the later albums that were forgotten
by radio stations.

Man, to hear these songs comparable
if not better than Bruce Springsteen.
He's got this ability to move u,
but also soothe you with his
powerful melodies and words

For serious fans, get all of
his work. I know a real musician/songwriter
when I hear one, and John Cafferty
is a winner in my book

How he never made it big
is beyond me
