I have this video of Eddie Fisher's where he sings songs from his Coke Time show which was on from 1953 to 1957. I love watching Eddie sing some of my favorite songs and some of his hit songs. Of course, it is in black and white but it stil is a great addition to any fan of old time TV. He had one of the finest voices in american popular music and I am still a fan.

All fot he cuts are from the Coke Time television show and here you see Eddie sing with pipes that are remarkable for such a young man. Many scenes involve some chatting with Don Ameche, always dapper and smiling and still in his prime, along with some really nice songs. Most of the songs are pop standards, but Fisher really pours it out on stage and during some of the mini musical bits. His voice singing "May I Sing To You", his theme for Coke Time, along with favorites like Oh My Papa, Anytime, Wish You Were Here, and White Christmas. There are some 15 or more songs and it is a really good deal at the price. Eddie Fisher had possibly one of the most popular folloiwngs in the 1950's and this tape demonstrates why that was the case.

Eddie the Star of T.V.,

He was great then, but no more! I was one of his fan club presidents who was deceived by his entourage (read BEEN THERE, DONE THAT) and the image they played up of his innocence. He was anything but innocent, and I guess he got what he deserved when he married the first time for publicity and the second for being gullible. Third time around wasn't so good, either, as none of his daughters have a good word to say about him.Eddie got lost along the way. The Eddie Fisher of 'Coke Time' was all a mirage. False Gods have feet of clay. Eddie's fall from grace was something he could not outlive. I hope he has some peace today. He deserves it after losing a career which was far above anyone back then. I loved his 'Sunshine Girl,' which Bill Ross played for me daily on his 'Relay' radio request show. Those were the good times. But they never last. |
