4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad at All
I first heard Eddie Money in the seventies when I was a college radio disc jockey. With a voice like Johnny Ray and a great gunslinger guitar player in Jimmy Lyon, they were like a Stax Volt/Motown/RocknRoll Glimmer Twins. I interviewed him for the University of Georgia daily newspaper and gave him a copy of the glowing review I had written of his debut LP. I later had...

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT WORTH THE MONEY...
EDDIE MONEY-GREATEST HITS/SOUND OF MONEY: Would be New York City cop turned raspy-voiced white soul-rocker Eddie Money is barely given his due on this incomplete summary of career makers. Although the basic classics from his late 70s/early 80s chart hey-day are included, meaning high water marks BABY HOLD ON and TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE, sultry Ronnie Spector duet TAKE ME...

I later had the pleasure of opening six dates of his "No Control" tour with my own band. His new gunslinger at the time, Steve Farris, went on to be a member of eighties chart toppers Mr. Mister, and played on one of my own records. Nice guys. Now, if you put this CD in perspective, it seems to underplay the considerable role that Lyon played in that it eliminates some key tracks that he played on, most notably "Trinidad", "Gimme Some Water" and "Jealousys". Ed wasn't happy about Jimmy's departure, and the magic never quite surfaced again for the band. Nonetheless, Money was able to deliver a lot of great radio songs in the years that followed, and most of those songs are here on this CD. The hit hits from "No Control" and the terrific single, "Take Me Home Tonight", prove that this man deserves to be noted as a great vocalist and, ultimately, a survivor.

I love Eddie Money's voice. Its so different from everyone else. This greatest hits CD is a must for anyone who's enjoyed his music over the years. The early hits,Baby hold on,Two Tickets to Paradise,Shakin," and "Think I'm in Love" are all here, and the songs that put Money on top again in the late 80's,"Take me home,Peace in our time," and my all time favorite,"I wanna go back." This is the first song I play when I'm on vacation, lying on the beach."I wanna go back and do it all over, but I can't go back I know.."The live version of "Where's the party?" is great, with the audience singing along. There's about three other newer songs, and there fantastic also.Like the other reviewer said,"This Greatest Hits CD is worth the Money."

This album is definately Eddie Money at his best. It is a wonderful CD with all of Eddie's greatest hits on it. I just saw him in concert last night and these are the songs that he played and he still plays them well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection and just enough new stuff to make it even better, April 4, 2006
This review is from: Eddie Money - Greatest Hits: The Sound of Money (Audio CD)
I have a problem with reviewers who probably have all of their favorite artist(s)' albums and go on record complaining that this song or that song wasn't on the "greatest hits" or "best-of" collection. I was a fan of Eddie Money's from the beginning, and was a little surprised to find that one reviewer thought his debut album was lame. I for one thought it was a super start to his career, with a couple of huge hit singles (the shorter single version of "Two Tickets" is even hotter than the album version...good luck finding it outside of eBay or one of those places you find in Goldmine that specialize in 45RPM singles only, if you find a copy of that one, it's worth your effort to track it down...if you're wondering, it isn't an edited version but a total remake with more guitars and more harmonies).

The additional tracks: Peace in Our Time, Stop Steppin' On My heart, Looking Thru the Eyes of a Child and the live version of Where's the Party are all typically radio-friendly Eddie Money tracks (that is definitely NOT a complaint) that show him in his element of being a rock-solid performer. His live shows, of which I've seen several, will put any doubt aside. If you have all the original albums these songs came from, the bonus material makes this one worth your money. I'm still a fan and it's all good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Baby, Hold on, July 11, 2002

This review is from: Eddie Money - Greatest Hits: The Sound of Money (Audio CD)
There are few rock or popular tunes that hold my interest because of their lyrics. The line "Baby, hold on to me...whatever will be, will be...I'll take you to the top..." is terrific. It caught my attention. Who wouldn't love to hear such confident assurance of love forever realised? Still, as always, it's the musical arrangement I fell in love with. A simple but catchy leitmotif, a sweeping romantic melodie that escalates dramatically as the instruments come in to play and then...of a sudden...a totally sexy interlude that surprised me...pure rock!

Eddie's voice is unique, as another reviewer pointed out. I bought because of Hold on to me...didn't regret it.

"Hey! How are my Ladies from the '80's?!" That was Eddie Money's rallying cry when he performed at our local county Fair this summer.
Well, I'm pretty good, thanks, Eddie! And this greatest hits CD was just the thing to brush up on all of the hits that made him so much of a guilty pleasure back in the day. This is a fairly complete collection of hits, and you'll be singing along to 95% of them, I guarantee. The only glitch was the lack of inclusion of "Give Me some Water", which was a huge hit for him and also a great song! In fact, I'd totally forgotten about it until he performed it live, and I said to myself,"Now why wasn't THIS on the CD?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Would Pay Any Buck To Hear Money And His Sound Recordings..., July 23, 2001

Now this guy knows how to get an audience tuned in. A wildly hot and rockin' compilation that makes you wonder why his career ever had to informally wither away. Sure he's getting older, but this megastar will always know how to belt out the right tunes. This greatest hit package isn't something with a few favorites included. At least half a dozen Billboard inclusives are here on disc, making you wish your local rock DJ only had better common sense. TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE, I WANNA GO BACK, BABY HOLD ON, WALK ON WATER, TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT (BE MY BABY), PEACE IN OUR TIME and THINK I'M IN LOVE gets listeners feeling like music does have special meaning. These hits plus many others prompt you either to hug your loving gal to bits, gather with a group of buddies and a stack of cold beer, or have a fun time relaxing all on your own. Seem all too simple or fantasized to be legit? Eddie will sing it to ya... he'll let you know how to keep in control shakin' all night long, having a blast where the best parties get together and take action.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Money, please!, July 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Eddie Money - Greatest Hits: The Sound of Money (Audio CD)
If you want to know who started this rough vocal but hard rocking music style, you can look at none other than Eddie Money.

Baby,Hold On was Money's first big hit. Although this song is played a lot in classic rock stations, it first started out in DISCO! What a crossing of musical styles! Money started junking the 70s dance club style and started writing more live wire guitar songs such as Think I'm In Love and Shakin' in 1982.

Most of his other rock songs are about the usual rock subjects: rock, sex, nudity and drinking. What songs were left out can be found in the other compilation albums. But what should have been included in ANY of them are Can't Hold Back and Endless Nights, both co-written by Money, himself.

Money is often criticized for cliches in his lyric writing: he often has 'baby' in a song. But what do you call pop music from 2000! At least Money has enough talent to write his own songs unlike bubblegum pop musicians in the spotlight for these recent years.

In general an Eddie Money song is often a good driving tune or for a bar tune. Another thing is that if you compare this album to a greatest hits album of Rick Springfield or Bryan Adams---Eddie Money spotted him in a bar before becoming big!---then you'll find out where they found a model for their own styles,Eddie Money.

This cd aint a bad buy for a casual fan, plus its cheap. But of course like most best of and greatest hits packages there is a shortage of songs."Endless Nights" should have been on here, and a few others. This was made before the newer hits cds that are out now with 15+ songs."Looking Through The Eyes Of A Child" would have been a big hit had it been a single...oh well i still love it.Maybe my favorite here. I crank it up in my car when i play it because of the good songs all here. With all the Eddie hits cds out there compared to this one there isnt much of a difference. With the exception of a few different songs.Which ever one you get you are sure to get the biggest hits first and foremost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eddie Money's Greatest Hits are worth the money!, March 10, 2001

Eddie Money didn't have one of the best singing voices ever, but he had a knack for making great catchy hits such as "Baby Hold On," "I Wanna Go Back," and "Take Me Home Tonight." All of his biggest hits and then some are included on this album. Most of the songs are catchy and have some good guitar playing in the background to make them even better. Eddie Money wrote most of his own songs, and I especially liked the lyrics to "I Wanna Go Back." Everytime I hear that song it makes me think about 80s music in general because I wanna go back to when music was at its greatest and before boy bands and rap took over completely. It's sad really, in today's music you hardly ever hear things that used to define rock music such as lead guitars, and most of the singing isn't really singing, it's just fast talking.

If you like late 70s or 80s music, I would recommend getting this album. If you only like the Eddie Money songs that you hear a lot on the radio and want a shorter amount of songs, I would recommend getting his Super Hits album instead.
