Doo doo on a stick,
By Johny Bottom "Insane and lonely guitarist" (Jacksonville, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eddie Murphy (Audio CD)
You boys put dat doo doo down! Stop messing wit dem guls. It's all here for early Eddie fans. From $0.39 chopsticks to getting hit by a bus. From West Indie regge men stomping you with big feet to washing body parts in the sink. I never understood his song which openly proclaims putting everything possible inside his butt, but judging from the cover with that ... flower in his hair and smile, you can figure it out for yourself.

This album is hysterical!! Eddie's superb delivery makes the material golden. I have it on tape and have practically worn it out from playing it so much. Great album to take on a road trip too!!

The songs are funny too,

People seem to diss the "songs" on the album, as if Eddie were trying to be a serious singer on the cd. The song Boogie in Your Butt is flat out hilarious. Enough is Enough is funny too, but not as funny as the first "song". Every track on here is a winner. His best effort, way better than RAW, the equal to Delirious. Did they ever release this as a Video?

FUNNY AS HELL,

This is a very funny cd. I am not a fan of comedy tapes but this is the funniest one I've ever heard. My personal favorites are Black Movie Theatre, Talking Cars, and Drinking Fathers. I strongly suggest you buy this cd it's definitely worth it.

could have been one of the greatest of all time,

Eddie murphy was the man back in the 80s mixing outragous and raunchy one liners with hilarious stories that revolved around everyday life that everyone regardless of their race could relate to. Every track on this album is a piece of true comic genius and reminds us of a time when Eddie was much more than just tired old man trying to play the family man role. (I.E. Pluto Nash, Daddy Day Care.) Its a shame he didnt stick with comedy because he will be remembered as one of the great comedic talents of our time but I dont really consider him to be as great as Red Foxx, Richard Prior,or Bill Cosby. Anyways in case you havent figured it out yet Eddie Murphy is a very very funny man whose comedy has been known to leave some in stitches and others (like parents and those who are easily offended) red faced and full of anger. This was a great find at the local record store. I really enjoyed it I hope you do to.

Step aside my friends and let me show you how to do it....,

This came out during my college days. Do not expect Richard Pryor type social commentary or warm funny Bill Cosby tales about childhood here. Murphy, then barely out of his teens, is basically taking a scattergun approach to make people laugh about things he sees. Leave your brains at the door and laugh. Interestingly, an Ebony magazine article once quoted Murphy as dismissing "Boogie in Your Butt" (where the title of this review comes from) as "garbage." True, but it's FUNNY garbage, as is the "Enough is Enough" parody (is that Joe Piscopo with him?).

Ah... so many memories of this album...
The self-titled "Eddie Murphy" is Eddie's first comedy album, made in his prime, and one of the examples of why he became such a big star. I must have listened to it ten times. Unlike "Eddie Murphy: Comedian", which is just "Eddie Murphy: Delirious" without the video, the material on this album hasn't been presented in any other form, and like "Delirious" or "Raw" will literally have you laughing from beginning to the end. But as a bonus, this was the first comedy album I ever heard that actually had songs by the comedian, the deliriously funny "Boogie In Your Butt", and the classic duet between two of Eddie's best characters, Richard Simmons and Buckwheat, "Enough is Enough". Murphy recorded this album around the time he was on Saturday Night Live, and if you thought that run was funny, this album takes it to the next level. His ability to do characters and tell stories, as well as his downright silliness shines here. Listen to this once and you'll know why this guy took being a comic to the level of being a rock star in the '80's. If you've never heard it, I can't recommend it enough.

I was only eleven years old when I first heard this Eddie Murphy recording in 1982. I have listened to it numerous times since then, and it still makes me laugh just as hard as I did the first time. Classic material that anyone can relate to... better than "Delirious".... better than "Raw." Definitely better than his musical recordings. Invite your friends over for drinks and share the laughter.....

I bought this tape way back in the day. It was one of the funniest comic tapes I have ever heard. I am huge fan of Eddie Murphy and this tape is one of the best. If you like this one then I would strongly recommend Comedian as well. A Little Chinese on this tape had me rolling! Very, very funny!

This like Eddie's Comedian album is an excellent representation of early 80's stand up comedy. This album does have a substantial amount of swearing which may offend some people and you shouldn't buy this album by mistake if you're looking for something for the kids because they like Donkee from Shrek or Eddie Murphy in the Nutty Professor. The swearing isn't just mindless though it does fit the comedy. There is a fair bit of prejudice against homosexuals, Asians, white people and others but if you can overlook it it's pretty funny. Eddie also talks about car alarms, the difference between the cultures in movie theatres, his childhood and other stuff. There is a song on here that's pretty bad called Boogie in Your Butt not by Eddie Murphy but he speaks over it, I don't know why he included that but you can memory it out or press skip. Eddie also sings a song as his Saturday Night Live character Buckwheat as the final track which isn't that good either. The hilarious stand up comedy tracks are a bit dated but an excellent representation of 80's stand up comedy. |
