Exceptional Sound Quality, Professional Transfers,
By "phylogony" (Cape Cod, Mass) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eddy Duchin & His Central Park Casino Orchestra: 1932-1937 (Audio CD)
This CD contains some of the earlier work done by Eddy Duchin from the 30's. The sound transfer quality is exceptional barring none. I highly recommend it as it sounds as good as it would have right out of the cutting lathe amplifiers! Nice job folks. I have collected all of the Diamond Cut CD's and love them all.

Not "hot," but very good dance music,
By Arthur Zimmerman (Jericho, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eddy Duchin & His Central Park Casino Orchestra: 1932-1937 (Audio CD)
Leader of one of the most well known society orchestras during a period better known for swing, Eddie Duchin catered to those who were financially well off and for whom "hot" was looked down upon as the music for the lower classes. That he was popular is evident by the vast recorded output from which Diamond Cut has reissued 21 fox trots and two recordings in the Latin mode - "Dust on the Moon" (rumba) and "Caminito" (tango) - from the mid-1930s. "How Do I Rate With You," with a growling trumpet, is about as close to "hot" as Duchin's band gets on this CD. Don't let that discourage you from investigating this recording; it's very good dance music and there's plenty of Duchin's piano featured. Most of the original source material appears to have been excellent or adequate, however, slightly worn originals must have been used for a couple tracks. Nevertheless, it shouldn't take away from the enjoyment of the music which includes many well known standards and some very nice songs which have, unfortunately, failed to endure in popularity. Despite his recorded legacy, relatively little of his output has found its way to reissue recordings, making this CD very welcome.

Brilliant Eddy Duchin Music!,

This review is from: Eddy Duchin & His Central Park Casino Orchestra: 1932-1937 (Audio CD)
Although I own five Eddy Duchin CDs, this is the one I return to the most often. The selection, placement and quality of the music is superb. The clarity and richness of the remastering by Diamond Cut is remarkable, as one discovers while listening to "You Took my Breath Away", "Night and Day", "It's De-Lovely", and "Take My Heart", just a few of the wonderful 1930s songs in this album. In addition, every singer is perfectly matched to each song. If you enjoy music of this era, you also will not want to miss "Got A Date With An Angel" by Hal Kemp and "La Cumparsita" by Francisco Canaro (Asv Living Era). This timeless and uplifting music is excellent for listening and dancing. I highly recommend this CD, another brilliant gem to add to your collection!
