Format: Vinyl
EDDY DUCHIN REMINSCES was originally a COLUMBIA four-record 78 rpm set (C-105) that was reissued in 1948 on this 10" red label LP (CL-6010). Its heavy paper cover is much thinner than later jackets; the disc is removed from the top.

Eddy Duchin was a self-trained musician of immense personal charm but somewhat limited ability. He played cross-hands, using a single finger for the lower notes. Revealed on this eight-side piano trio set are Eddy's repetitious use of single fortissimo phrases amid generally moderate volume performances, also the exact same "dah-dah, dah-dah, dah-dah DAHHHH" as a connector between all sixteen paired songs. He also liked to throw in rhythmic extra notes. To cite an example but using lyrics: "If I could be-ee-ee with you-ou-ou one hour tonight; If I was dum-DAHHH...DADA-DUM... the things I might..."

This also illustrates the aforementioned reliance on key-banging.

All criticism aside, "Reminisces" was one of the few 78 albums in my parents' home, along with CUGAT'S FAVORITE RHUMBAS, a Frankie Carle set, one by Carmen Cavallaro and FINIAN'S RAINBOW. As a child of 7 or so, I played this album's record two and four many times (thus my familiarity with "If I Could Be With You"). Of the three pianists in mom's record drawer, Eddy Duchin was my favorite. I liked the simple instrumentation, the sweet style and those punched highlights.

Duchin's career was halted by WWII and after Navy service he was unable to restart it.
