Biography

An intelligent alternative pop duo with folk and country leanings (though they often relied on synthesizers and drum machines, even while playing live dates), Timbuk 3's Pat and Barbara K. MacDonald wrote many better songs than their surprise 1986 hit "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades." The couple, who met in the late '70s while Barbara studied at the University of Wisconsin, were based… Read more in Amazon's Timbuk 3 Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Here comes Reverend Jack, March 24, 2006
By Paul Farr "Copyrider" (Sharpsburg, GA USA) - See all my reviews

If you like your rock sparse, bluesy, smart, and rough around the endges, you can't go wrong with Timbuk 3, and this is one of their best. A lot of variation here, from the smash-bang funkiness of Reverend Jack to the freakishly catchy Sample the Dog and the dreamy darkness of Easy. In fact, the one drawback to this album is that it's hard to sustain a mood when listening to it, but the tunes are great, and some (like Jack and Sample) are absolutely indispensible.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wry look at life..., June 3, 2005
By A. Ort "aorto" (Youngstown, Ohio) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you are familiar with their first album, this one carries on in a similar vein. It is so easy to listen to with catchy guitar work and penetrating lyrics with just a splash of cynicism and a whole lotta irony.

It's a bit more personal than the first album, less about the outside world and politics, less social commentary, and more songs about people and strange situations. 'Sample the Dog' makes it worth the purchase. Overall, a great sophomore effort.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff, February 22, 2003
By the stoat (manchester, england) - See all my reviews
You may never have heard of this band - but try this CD and you'll want to hear more. They offer a cynical and wry way of looking at life put to smooth folk-rock traditional tunes. It's a laid back way of music for people with an intellectual laid back way of life.
