5.0 out of 5 stars Toute patience est finalement récompensée

2.0 out of 5 stars Uninspiring...
I've been listening to Etienne Daho since high school (I lived in France for 10 years, and can easily remember when Tombe Pour La France was a big hit over there). This CD really is quite uninspiring. All the tracks pretty much sound alike, and his musical talents are definately not put to the test.

If you're interested in french music, pick up one of his best CD's,...

4.0 out of 5 stars New fan likes what he hears, October 11, 1998
This review is from: EDEN (Audio CD)
This album was given to me by an ardent French fan and it is the first time I have heard him. One or two of the songs are weird pastiches, but most of the album is great to listen to. I especially like Daho's method of non-singing- he sings with such ease that he's almost not trying. This album is worth investigation.

5.0 out of 5 stars lush, October 8, 1999
This review is from: EDEN (Audio CD)
This is a beautiful album. Daho's breathy baritone is almost comically stereotypical, but it contributes to a wonderfully exotic feel. The songs and arrangements are superb, and for 1996 (when it was recorded) bang up to date. On several tracks, especially the housey "rendez-vous au jardin des plaisirs", the sound is prescient of Madonna's recent work with William Orbit. Set sail for this Eden.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, September 26, 1999

This is probably the best and most accessible album Daho's done yet. It's remarkably cohesive, incredibly evocative, lush, and romantic. Daho creates a wonderful atmosphere and manages to unmake the oxymoron "French rock."

Etienne Daho has developed from remedial pop star to full-fledged musical icon. He has made his greatest strides with this lush, complex album. Borrowing from Prefab Sprout and in some instances Lloyd Cole (circa "Don't Get Wierd on Me"), Daho has constructed his masterpiece. A must buy for anyone wishing to expand their musical horizons beyond typical American/British pop territory.

Got to know the singer during my Paris trip. His deep voice and words of songs always take me to the land of imagination.

2.0 out of 5 stars Uninspiring..., July 3, 2000

I've been listening to Etienne Daho since high school (I lived in France for 10 years, and can easily remember when Tombe Pour La France was a big hit over there). This CD really is quite uninspiring. All the tracks pretty much sound alike, and his musical talents are definately not put to the test.

If you're interested in french music, pick up one of his best CD's, Pour nos vies Martiennes, which has tons of beautiful songs, and exceptional lyrics (for those of you know french, the track Des Ir will definately appeal to your more poetic side).

Eden lacks in character... but Etienne is definately a good source for french pop... His latest release is just... uninspired.
