EXCHANGE OF HOSTAGES,
By Sesho "www.sesho.libsyn.com" (Pasadena, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eden: It's An Endless World!, Vol. 5 (Paperback)
Elijah and the members of NOMAD have made it out of Propater controlled territory and now it's time to reap the fruits of their efforts. Sophia, the cyborg member of the team is carrying Maya, an AI intelligence in her mind whose mission has something to do with saving the world. During the download, we get to see some pretty graphic memories of Sophia's past and how she ended up at NOMAD that might make you wince. But all is not peace and quiet as Elijah's mom and sister are being held hostage along with Maya's human body by Propater and it's not going to let any of them go without carnage and death.
Eden is one of, if not the only, manga that I actually get more and more excited about with each release. To me, it almost rates as perfect. It has an interesting and suspenseful plot that keeps you guessing and the characters are extremely multi-layered. Their backstories equal the main plot in quality and Endo digresses in the just right amount so that what's going on in the present keeps your main focus. Another thing that's cool about Eden is that it doesn't pull any punches, whether its bloody violence, graphic eroticism, or the exhibition of honest passion and emotion. Endo has put his soul into this work and it shows. Whatever he deems as necessary to make Eden the best art it can be, he does. This is one of the greatest manga I have ever read.

Keeping up the pace, volume five delivers more awesome character-driven story mixed with fantastically illustrated action. The genre is definitely sci-fi, but the robots, futuristic vehicles, and cyborg weapons are secondary to the well-paced tale of a world recovering from a viral apocalypse.
