Restores One's Faith March 16, 2011

And I don't say that lightly. I mean, I actually rejoined church after years of being away while reading this book, it had that big an effect on me. So yes, the religious overtone was big, but it is an enjoyable read nontheless. I fell in love through the sample, and this is a book me and my 12 year old son had chosen to read, one I was reading to him each night, and we both were hooked by the end of the sample we had to by it. For $5 it was more than worth it.

Alexandra embarks on a journey to see her mother and meets a mysterious stranger, Koneh, who comes to save her life more than once. Koneh is scarred and rough looking and sounding, and he isn't exactly nice, but in this new world, he's about the only person left to trust and she doesn't have much choice. He proves to her he's there to keep her alive and that seems enough, since everything else wants to kill her so far. Every THING? Thats right, I forgot to mention, theres possessed hounds and horned things and flying demons and fallen angels around every corner, making for one very scary new world for poor Alexandra. She doesn't want to be alone, and Koneh's all there is to trust, until they find the old priest, Father Callahan. He's much more likeable and easy to trust, and he quickly joins their journey to Eden.

Eden, the place where Adam and Eve were first cast out of for sin, has been reopened due to earthquakes and Heaven falling to Earth you see, causing all Hell to break loose, literally. So Alexandra's little makeshift group starts a very curious way across broken terrain to venture there, with many curious companion's and plot twists along the way. I don't want to give much more away to the reader, so I won't. I'll leave it at that and just say, this is a MUST read.

There has never been another author like Plourde, his descriptions and subject matter don't hold back, and he takes you all the way. I had fear he would take us there and stop, leaving us to wonder, but he didn't, he finished, a fully, wholesome, satuated ending. I wasn't left in hunger or with questions. Just with interest for more of his work. An amazing writer! Highly recommended to all! But I do suggest one thing, read to yourself so you don't have to wait on your partner to keep pace! I did NOT want to put this down at ALL!

I want more! November 12, 2010

Matthew C. Plourde is a very talented writer who knows how to tell a story. He knows how to pace a story. Really knows how to keep you turning the pages. As unbelievable as this tale of "Eden" might be, you will want to believe it. You'll want the best for the characters. You will want to reach the end, but you won't want the book to end.

Mr. Plourde has a wonderful future writing books that people will love to read. And they will want more. I want more.

I read authors who write in such a way that keeps me interested, amuses me, and makes me consider what's being said between the lines. If this is a genre you enjoy, you need to read this book. Even if this is not your cup of tea, you need to hear what this author has to say. I highly recommend adding "Eden", and this author to your book shelf.

Say your prayers, for the apocalypse is upon us!

In this day and age, religion is all but forgotten in the life of the average American. It's either a political hot-button issue or something "other people" care about. What if you were to find out that - a great deal of it is very, and powerfully real and that you were in fact, stuck in the middle of all of it? That's where the heroine of "Eden" finds herself when the world suddenly, and very literally begins to crumble around her.

Lately there have been several attempts to write about the end of the world that have fallen flat (Ahem... 2012), but Mr. Plourde hits the nail on the head with his novel. The camp of the genre has become more of the norm, but Mr. Plourde harkens back closer to the style of Alas, Babylon. Filled with high adventure and self-discovery, Matthew Plourde is the new voice of post-apocalyptic fiction.

More About the Author

My life certainly didn't pan out the way I had expected. I fought for my life and nearly died from cancer at the age of 23. From that point forward, everything changed. However, change is like a glacier and it moves at it's own plodding pace.

My experience with cancer taught me a valuable lesson - don't allow life to just "happen" around you. Make changes, take risks and be true to your own heart.

After 11 years, I'm finally acting upon those lessons learned. I left a comfy career in my hometown to travel the world as an enterprise consultant. My wife and I lived in Vietnam for a month while we adopted our son. And I'm now listening to that ever-present voice telling me I'm an artist. Words and stories are my craft, and I hope you find some joy and surprises in my fiction. I'll leave you with perhaps my all-time favorite quote that personifies how I feel when I write:

"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song." -Maya Angelou, Poet
