More About the Author

USA Today and New York Times Best Selling Author

I write paranormal, sci-fi, and fantasy romance. I have wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. I write what I enjoy in the hopes that others will enjoy it as well. I've always been drawn to the macabre. Vampires, werewolves, you name it. I've never written about the paranormal because it's popular. I do it because that's what I'm interested in. If the vampire fad ever passes, I'll still be sitting here in my Dracula cape, getting my fang on.

I write erotic horror under the name T.K. Hardin.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. With no other reviews and a publisher I hadn't heard of, I didn't expect much. But I liked the characters and the story pulled me in.

Previously a private investigator, Catrina is a monster hunter. She goes after werewolves, vampires, etc. and often is hired by the monsters themselves. Her longest running client is the master of the city Viktor. Turned by the King of Vampires, Viktor has a lot of power and is Abraham Van Helsing's younger brother. When his vampires are being murdered, he asks Catrina to help determine who did it. He suspects the Alpha of the werewolf pack Alex did it. But when Catrina meets and becomes friends with Alex, she knows he's not the one. In fact, she's very attracted to Alex, which is difficult because she is already falling in love with Viktor. Then when one of Alex's werewolves turns up dead, they realize someone might be out to set the city's head of vampires and the head of werewolves against each other. It's up to them to work together to track down the murderer.

Only real negatives were that the book needed a better editor--there were a lot of minor typos, namely capital M's as if the author's M key had a glitch. (Kind of funny really.) And also the story wasn't all that original. I've read so many paranormal romances and urban fantasies, it's hard to find a vampire/werewolf story that doesn't remind me of something else I've read.

But all in all, an easy, entertaining read. I liked the romantic tension that built up throughout the book. The book also had good character development, with background provided on the characters and their actions.

Catrina is an independent woman who owns her own business hunting monsters, generally vampires and werewolves. The inspiration came from her sister who was raped and brutalized years earlier by an unidentified monster. In the years since Catrina started her business, she had earned the respect and affection of the city's master vampire Vicktor. Until now she has always kept a hands off policy with him despite her own attraction, but then Victor proposes a new deal after a threat comes that he needs her help with.

He believes the alpha of a local werewolf pack, Alexander, may be vying for control of the city. The first part of the plan is for her to pose as Victors human servant and lover until the right time for a public break up. Then she will turn to Alexander as a bitter scorned woman and gain his trust to find out if he is behind the latest attacks on vampires. Things don't go as planned when she meets Alex and finds a similar attraction to him as Victor. Catrina also doesn't believe the Alpha is behind the attacks as some of his own pack is being killed as well. Now she must find the true killer and reconcile the love she is gaining for two opposing men before it becomes too late.

I will admit this story had some similarities to other paranormal romances I have read, particularly Anita Blake. The authors dialog also seems a bit young and immature at times considering the characters she has developed in the story. Despite these things, I grew engrossed in the book and could hardly put it down. Some of her ideas may not be original, but she does add some of her own twists to the tale. The book could have used a bit more editing, but the mistakes weren't over the top. I enjoyed the style of the book and found it quit endearing and real.
