Horrific (just plain bad), January 14, 2011
This is the worst book I ever read. All historical romance books have the same premise. It is the plot that makes an historical romance stand out and become special. Eden's Promise starts out with a good idea. An innocent girl, Eden, finds love and comfort in Zach. While, Zach is a former pirate who cannot escape his past. It seems like a great idea but Cassie Edwards turns this idea into a disaster. The flaws begin with the characters. Eden is too trusting and innocent. She is portrayed as a weak heroine who falls in love too fast. Her love for Zach was unexplainable. She does not accept his past and always quick to forget that he was a pirate. Zach is a terrible pirate. The product description is a big lie. First, Zach is a former pirate who is forced to kill his former captain in order to live a peaceful life. Eden does end up on his ship, but they already were in love . Plus, the ship sinks two pages later, and therefore, Eden and Zach spend little time on the ship. The other characters are one dimensional. The portrayal of the slaves is beyond stereotypical. Edwards tries to cover such disrespect by making one of the slave Zach's best friend. I just could not read "Yessa Masta," or "Oh Lordy," anymore. The biggest insult was that Zach's best friend's son is playing and growing up with Eden and Zach's son. Yet, Eden and Zach's son speaks perfect English while the other does not. It was completely disrespectful. Moving past the characters, the plot is so boring. Zach and Eden falls in love before the third chapter ends. Afterwards, the story just drags. There is no action and the main characters cannot stop saying "darling." The ending had many flaws especially between Zach and his former mentor, the pirate captain. Overall, this book is simply boring. All the characters were one dimensional and easy to read. I predicted the entire ending before the second half of the book. It lacks a storyline that focuses on two individuals that find love against all odds. In addition, I cannot stress that the product description has nothing to do with the book. The story mostly takes place on land and not in the sea. Eden was NEVER Zach's prisoner. I am never read such a terrible book!!

Dreck, June 22, 2010
I have never started a work of light fiction that I have not finished. This book marks the first for me that, in order to preserve my sanity, I had to put down. Simplistic, boiler-plate, all the subtlety of a train wreck are not close to how awful and artless this novel is. I have read many historical romances, but none have ever reached this pitiable a level of unsubtle plotting, foreshadowing, etc.

I really liked this book. I couldn't put it down. I love Cassie Edwards work and she didn't disappoint with Eden's Promise.
