5.0 out of 5 stars If You Read One Book in Your Life, This Should Be It!, June 4, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Edgar Cayce's Story of the Soul (Paperback)
I started reading this book at 6:00 AM and did not put it down until I finished it twelve hours later. I have read a lot of self-help books in my life, but this one actually changed my life. The answers are all here. Ever wonder about the pyramids, Atlantis, The flat altars found in the dense South American jungles, ancient advanced civilizations? All of the answers are here. Read it with an open mind and let yourself absorb it. What a wonderful experience! This book is a story of the soul from the time it was created. It offers an explanation of what we are doing here and why. It will explain why one child is born into the lap of luxury while another dies of starvation at the age of three in Biafra. It will explain love at first site and why you despise someone on your first meeting for no apparent reason. It will give meaning to your life and your circumstances. More importantly, without preaching, it will help you discover ways to change those circumstances, IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO SO. Forget the self help books. Read this one and enjoy

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Really Edgar Cayce's Story, July 19, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Edgar Cayce's Story of the Soul (Paperback)
I have long been interested in the readings of Edgar Cayce and believe that if there ever was a genuine psychic, Edgar Cayce was it. I am also sure that conventional theories of evolution and histories of man have missed much and that Cayce gave clues that may help fill in those blanks. However, Church based this book not only on the readings of Edgar Cayce but cherry-pickings from Blavatsky, Nostradamus, the Bible, and many other esoteric sources - which he then cements together with his own speculations. So this book is not really Edgar Cayce's story. The style also leaves much to be desired. Church repeatly brings up subjects only to tell the reader that he'll get to that later. The author also constantly refers to his text as a "journey" that he and the reader are going on. That style might be appropriate when delivering a slide-show to grade-school students, but seems condescending to me. Consider this book an introduction to the subject until a better one comes along.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edgar Cayce's story of the soul, September 9, 2005

This review is from: Edgar Cayce's Story of the Soul (Paperback)
Contrary to another review present here, I think this book is wonderful. W.H. Church does a wonderful job of gluing together massive amounts of information in a small book. This is the kind of book that one will read and re-read for years to come. I admit, it takes some thought to process the information and it is true that the book seemed as if it was dictated to a stenographer rather than penned by hand; in this way, the author does not write in a strait and logical line as most other authors do. Blavatski's views were also churned into this book, thus filling some of Cayce's blank spots. I think he chose a perfect person in selecting Blavatski; she was a wise and intuitive person who founded Theosophy. I especially enjoyed the chapters referring to Atlantis.
In short, I place this book among my favorites along with "The Mystical Life of Jesus" and "Mansions of the Soul".
