I am an artist. I am interested in his life and processes. This book has too much info off subject.

Format: Hardcover
While Monet was caught up painting endless hills and Renoir seems to portray what I can only describe as bored subjects, Degas' art has a vibrancy and motion which I feel the Impressionists would otherwise be lacking. From the graceful limbs of the ballerinas mid-flight to the aching muscles of the horses in a race, Degas somehow had the ability to stop time in his paintings.

While Degas often produced variation upon variation of the same subject - the ballet girls, the nudes - I found this book gives examples of some of his best paintings around these often visited subjects, including a couple of personal favorites, `The Rehearsal on Stage' and `Naked Woman Drying her Foot'. Those impressionistic brush strokes are reproduced very well and the images sit well in this large(ish) format book.

I'd recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Degas or the Impressionists in general.

Good selections on an impressionist thay has survived with gloowing colours thrugh ages of pictorial innovation. We could say that Degas is painting better and better every day. A Jewel of genius.
