A GREAT, GREAT CD,

This CD is wonderful. I 'll come back to say more when I have more time, but I thought for the time being I'd just let you know that you can find all the samples of this new CD to hear on Cduniverse (while they're not yet on Amazon) - they'll give you an idea.
It is different from the Heron, less "noisy", more "focussed and clear". I find that all the 5-star reviews for the Heron are valid for this CD too, and for this one even more - it's even more "beautiful and pure". Pure is definitely a keyword, the fresh, childlike and deeply honest accents in her voice are there, along with a pleasant maturity; her tone has become more natural. If you like her, you might also like to try Mishi Donovan's CD: Journey home, though I prefer "Edge of America" at the moment. There you go, I've written my review afterall...

One of the best CDs of all time,

I had very high expectations from Annie this time because I absolutely love her Heron smiled CD. And after the first listening I was even a little disappointed. But... then I got used to it, I listened to it more and more and now I think it's one of the best recordings ever.
Annie writes and sings straight from her heart and her heart is really BIG.. and she's not afraid of experimenting and of modern influeces. And that's what makes this CD better than Heron.. many things, many ways mixed together.. with sometimes intimate, sometimes sad, but always very, very deep lyrics... I cannot fully desribe my feelings when listening to this masterpiece, to this one small but very bright candle in this world... If you feel like me, you can write me at azalin@email.cz..

Another great cd from Annie. If you are tired of the mindless music that you find in the middle of America, try the Edge of America. No mindless drivel here. Real mindspeak for those who still have a mind to think with. A little darker than her last one but an inspiring five star release. Support her music and buy one.
I love the titles at the end of the cd that are "rain" based. What a cluster of beautiful music. Edge of America is an inspiration to creativity with an honest edge. (...) Free Leonard Peltier All the best, Steve

I first discovered Annie Humphrey on the soundtrack of Chris Eyre's film "Smoke Signals" and I was enchanted with the dynamic of her smooth, mother earth voice flowing through emotional, political and personal lyrics. If you've never heard an "old soul", this is what it sounds like. Though nothing will ever surpass her first iconic album "The Heron Smiled", "Edge of America" repeats the same winning recipe of heart, soul, technology and humanity that pulls you into her circle and keeps you enchanted while she lovingly educates you.
America must never forget what it did to the First Nation people for, as Annie says, we are all indigenous to this planet. A title of the next Eyre film, "Edge of America" will make you feel what it is like to be marginalized and still keep your spirit. Something many of us can relate to in 2010. If you liked "The Heron Smiled", you will like this one. Thanks to the now Annie Humphrey-Jimenez! |
