What The Lifeboats Are Really Like,
By Craig Ramsay (PEI, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: To the Edge: Confessions of a Lifeboat Coxswain (Paperback)
I'm probably a bit biased in this review as I am one of the crew members profiled by Tom in the book (the North American radio operator in the 1980s.) This book though is a fine portrait of those of us who went, and continue to go, to sea at a moment's notice in the lifeboats of the RNLI. Unlike many of the books out about the boats that practically deify lifeboatmen, Tom keeps the story down to earth, recounting the humourous moments and our continual battles with Poole(HQ down in England) as well as the "heroic" and sadder moments. This is the way it really is out there, folks!
