Book Description

June 27, 2006
Even the deepest peril couldn’t keep him away from her.

As an anti-terrorism operative in T-FLAC’s classified paranormal unit, the intrepid, ruggedly handsome Gabriel Edge protects the world from the forces of evil. So when an ingenious and extremely volatile invention is stolen from a covert lab in Arizona, Gabriel zeroes in on the brilliant young scientist who helped to create the device. From Gabriel’s first contact, Eden Cahill leaves an indelible impression.

Using a mysterious telepathic power as ancient as his Scottish heritage, as well as his seductive physical charms, Gabriel must infiltrate Eden’s mind to uncover the secrets she so desperately protects. But Gabriel is in a bind–for the only way to penetrate Eden’s memories is through one shared intimate encounter that will trigger revelations, shatter lives, and just might save humanity–all at a terribly steep price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Didn't Work, July 3, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Edge of Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
Cherry Adair usually writes romantic suspense and I love paranormal, so when I seen the two together, I was extremely excited. Edge of Danger is the first book in a trilogy about 3 brothers, who are wizards that work in the psi division of T-FLAC. In this book, Gabriel Edge has been sent to get information from Eden Cahill concerning the new robot she has invented. Unfortunately for Gabriel, Eden has the entire plans in her photographic memory and is trusting no one. After numerous attempts to invade Eden's mind fails, Gabriel kidnaps her and whisks her to his castle in Montana (yes, Montana). The problem is this - Gabriel's family has been cursed for 500 years. Since the onset of the curse, only 3 sons will be born every generation, they will be wizards, and they will find their lifemate, only to see her die within a few years after joining with her. Gabriel realizes within a short time that Eden is his lifemate, but is determined to stay out of arm's reach with her, get the info, and get out before he does something that will compromise her safety and continue the family curse.

The book almost didn't work for two reasons. 1. - At the beginning, Gabriel decides that the easiest way to get the info from Eden was to cause her to climax, thus lowering her mental defenses. He figures he only needs about 12 seconds to accomplish this. It was such an obvious ploy to advance the sex that it really was quite silly. No. 2 - Using this thinking, Gabriel remains invisible and on at least 2 to 3 occasions sexually arouses Eden, when she has no idea what is going on. To me, this lack of consent was nothing more than mental rape. I kept waiting for her to realize what he had done and try to knock his head off, but when she realized what he had done, she was already halfway in love with him, and really sort of just let it go after a few choice remarks. What??? This would have been a BFD for me, with serious trust issues involved.

At this point I was ready to throw it in the garbage, but persisted because I wanted to see what REALLY would break the curse. Thankfully I did because the 2nd half of the book was really very well done - full of good action, great romance and a satisfying conclusion. I will read the next two stories about Gabriel's brothers, but hope the meeting of the lifemates is not as flimsy plot device.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Drama!, July 18, 2006
This review is from: Edge of Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
Long ago, there was a secret society of wizards whose sole purpose was to protect the innocent from evil at any cost. They were forced to hide themselves. Soon, normal people forgot about wizards and stopped believing in magic. Today, the three Edge brothers (Gabriel, Caleb, and Duncan) carry on the legacy. They are special operatives with the secret paranormal branch of T-FLAC. This is Gabriel's story.

Dr. Eden Cahill works in a computer lab within Verdine Industries's main Arizona office. Recently, Eden walked into the lab to find her long time mentor, Dr. Theo Kirchner, dying from gun shot wounds and the prototype of Rx793 "Rex" stolen. As she promised her mentor, Eden destroyed all files and data about Rex. Though Eden let her mentor get credit for just about everything, Eden was the master mind behind Rex's robotic abilities. She had let her curiosity get away with her and ended up with what was supposed to be used as a field medic under military battle conditions. Instead, the madman who took the bot now has a soulless, calculating machine with the capability of doing untold harm to mankind. A bot that looks like an innocent five-year-old boy.

Gabriel Edge is the eldest of the brothers. Using his special psi-abilities, he is to knock on Eden's mental door and extract all the needed information about Rex and how to destroy it. However, Eden is somehow blocking him. The only way for Gabriel to get the info is to convince Eden to trust him before an unknown rogue wizard uses the bot he stole to create havoc. At the same time, Gabriel must protect Eden from the wizard. If Eden dies, all hope is lost.

***** OUTSTANDING! This is the first of a trilogy about the Edge brothers. The second story, "Edge of Fear", will be released in August 2006. The third story, "Edge of Darkness", will go on sale in September 2006. To make it all more interesting, author Cherry Adair added a special twist that kept me on the edge of my seat (no pun intended). The three brothers are part of a five hundred year old curse. When they find their "lifemates" they must deny themselves of finding love. If they ignore the curse, the women they love die. Guess who Gabriel's lifemate is. Take my advice: Order out for dinner, unplug your phones, snuggle down somewhere comfortable, and enjoy this tale of high drama! *****

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I finished this..., July 17, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Edge of Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
When I started reading this book, I was not ready for the Cherry Adair that I knew and loved to write paranormal counter-terrorist stuff instead of the macho realistic counter-terrorist stuff. Come on, wizards?

As a matter of fact, after about 40 pages, I pulled up the reviews on this book to see if it was worth finishing or not. After reading the positive reviews, I gave it another chance - I suspended my beliefs, opened my mind, and finished the book. I'm glad I did. It's not my favorite book of Ms. Adair's, but now I want to read the rest of the trilogy. Don't buy this book expecting it to be like her other stuff.
