2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre goes from bad to worse
Ms. Adair's books are mediocre, at best; but this series is a step down from that. I could have made the adjustment from romantic suspense to paranormal romantic suspense if the book had been any good, but it wasn't. I went on to read the next two books in the series, and they aren't any better. Sorry, but there it is.

Cherry Adair usually writes romantic suspense and I love paranormal, so when I seen the two together, I was extremely excited. Edge of Danger is the first book in a trilogy about 3 brothers, who are wizards that work in the psi division of T-FLAC. In this book, Gabriel Edge has been sent to get information from Eden Cahill concerning the new robot she has invented. Unfortunately for Gabriel, Eden has the entire plans in her photographic memory and is trusting no one. After numerous attempts to invade Eden's mind fails, Gabriel kidnaps her and whisks her to his castle in Montana (yes, Montana). The problem is this - Gabriel's family has been cursed for 500 years. Since the onset of the curse, only 3 sons will be born every generation, they will be wizards, and they will find their lifemate, only to see her die within a few years after joining with her. Gabriel realizes within a short time that Eden is his lifemate, but is determined to stay out of arm's reach with her, get the info, and get out before he does something that will compromise her safety and continue the family curse.

The book almost didn't work for two reasons. 1. - At the beginning, Gabriel decides that the easiest way to get the info from Eden was to cause her to climax, thus lowering her mental defenses. He figures he only needs about 12 seconds to accomplish this. It was such an obvious ploy to advance the sex that it really was quite silly. No. 2 - Using this thinking, Gabriel remains invisible and on at least 2 to 3 occasions sexually arouses Eden, when she has no idea what is going on. To me, this lack of consent was nothing more than mental rape. I kept waiting for her to realize what he had done and try to knock his head off, but when she realized what he had done, she was already halfway in love with him, and really sort of just let it go after a few choice remarks. What??? This would have been a BFD for me, with serious trust issues involved.

At this point I was ready to throw it in the garbage, but persisted because I wanted to see what REALLY would break the curse. Thankfully I did because the 2nd half of the book was really very well done - full of good action, great romance and a satisfying conclusion. I will read the next two stories about Gabriel's brothers, but hope the meeting of the lifemates is not as flimsy plot device.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Drama!, July 18, 2006
This review is from: Edge of Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
Long ago, there was a secret society of wizards whose sole purpose was to protect the innocent from evil at any cost. They were forced to hide themselves. Soon, normal people forgot about wizards and stopped believing in magic. Today, the three Edge brothers (Gabriel, Caleb, and Duncan) carry on the legacy. They are special operatives with the secret paranormal branch of T-FLAC. This is Gabriel's story.

Dr. Eden Cahill works in a computer lab within Verdine Industries's main Arizona office. Recently, Eden walked into the lab to find her long time mentor, Dr. Theo Kirchner, dying from gun shot wounds and the prototype of Rx793 "Rex" stolen. As she promised her mentor, Eden destroyed all files and data about Rex. Though Eden let her mentor get credit for just about everything, Eden was the master mind behind Rex's robotic abilities. She had let her curiosity get away with her and ended up with what was supposed to be used as a field medic under military battle conditions. Instead, the madman who took the bot now has a soulless, calculating machine with the capability of doing untold harm to mankind. A bot that looks like an innocent five-year-old boy.

Gabriel Edge is the eldest of the brothers. Using his special psi-abilities, he is to knock on Eden's mental door and extract all the needed information about Rex and how to destroy it. However, Eden is somehow blocking him. The only way for Gabriel to get the info is to convince Eden to trust him before an unknown rogue wizard uses the bot he stole to create havoc. At the same time, Gabriel must protect Eden from the wizard. If Eden dies, all hope is lost.

***** OUTSTANDING! This is the first of a trilogy about the Edge brothers. The second story, "Edge of Fear", will be released in August 2006. The third story, "Edge of Darkness", will go on sale in September 2006. To make it all more interesting, author Cherry Adair added a special twist that kept me on the edge of my seat (no pun intended). The three brothers are part of a five hundred year old curse. When they find their "lifemates" they must deny themselves of finding love. If they ignore the curse, the women they love die. Guess who Gabriel's lifemate is. Take my advice: Order out for dinner, unplug your phones, snuggle down somewhere comfortable, and enjoy this tale of high drama! *****

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I finished this..., July 17, 2006

When I started reading this book, I was not ready for the Cherry Adair that I knew and loved to write paranormal counter-terrorist stuff instead of the macho realistic counter-terrorist stuff. Come on, wizards?

As a matter of fact, after about 40 pages, I pulled up the reviews on this book to see if it was worth finishing or not. After reading the positive reviews, I gave it another chance - I suspended my beliefs, opened my mind, and finished the book. I'm glad I did. It's not my favorite book of Ms. Adair's, but now I want to read the rest of the trilogy. Don't buy this book expecting it to be like her other stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars She's Done It Again...That's A Good Thing!, September 5, 2006
This review is from: Edge of Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
Dr. Eden Cahill is in trouble. She works in a lab and her mentor and friend has been murdered because of a project they've been working on, an AI robot with dangerous capabilities if it fell into the wrong hands. After promising her mentor that she will wipe all their research from their files she thinks this is going to be the end of the danger. Although the ground breaking research was credited to Dr. Kirchner...the work was almost all Eden's. And she worries about what the killer will do with her creation. She also has another worry. The sexual awakening of her libido that seems to mysteriously act out at the worst possible moments.

Gabriel Edge is one of three brothers who work secretly in T-FLAC in the classified paranormal section. Gabriel is chosen to use his special talents on Eden in order to get the information she has in her brain about the robot "Rex." But what should be an easy assignment proves to be anything but. Eden has managed to block him and that leaves him with little options. He doesn't want to have to get physical with her...he has his own baggage in the form of a wicked curse that plagues his family. He's going to have to get Eden to trust in him before an unimaginable evil that will destroy the one woman he will ever love.

Ms. Adair has done it again...no big surprise there! Her latest series is off with a BANG and I can't wait to see how the other two brothers fair in the romance department. This story is not only imaginative; it's populated by wonderfully unique characters. Gabriel is a hero to die for and Eden is his perfect complement. If you like fast-paced, sexy reads I highly recommend Cherry Adair. She offers all that a lot more!

2.0 out of 5 stars Gone are the days of Kiss & Tell...., September 18, 2006
This review is from: Edge of Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
I did not like this book much. The story line failed to intrigue me - didnt like the characters either and could not connect with them.

Usually i read Ms Adairs' books avidly...having loved Kiss & Tell and Hide & Seek but this series for me lacks interest. The 'Curse' storyline in my opinion could have been developed much better & the final resolution of it seemed so trite and convenient. I also did not feel that special spark between the two main characters.

I was bored reading this book before coming to half of it and found mself skimming through the pages to quickly end it up. My opinion is that the formula about tough T-Flac men should be changed now for something new and original, and this does not merely entail the idea of turning them into wizards! (such a silly word to be found in such a book) Whats up nowadays anway with writers all of them writing about terrorists and antiterrorism campagins etc? A couple of years ago this story line was novel and therefore intriguing...but i can frankly say that im fed up now of always reading about this lately in romantic suspence books (particularly by Cherry Adair & Cristina Skye)I feel like having read one its like having read them all. I feel disapointed with this newest series by Ms Adair. I have bought the 3 books from amazon at once & was disapointed by all three. Hope that in the future Ms Adairs tries to come up with something new and novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Edge of your seat read, July 2, 2006
By
This review is from: Edge of Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
Edge of Danger is part of a series all coming out in the summer of 2006 (Edge of Darkness and Edge of Fear are the other titles). It is the story of the Edge brothers--Gabriel, Caleb and Duncan, Edge of Danger is the story of Gabriel and Dr. Eden Cahill.

The Edge boys are all cursed wizards with different talents. Gabriel lives in the family home, a Scottish castle built in the 1300s that was transported to Montana. They are all part of the paranormal division of T-FLAC, a counterterrorist organization. Brilliant Dr. Eden Cahill works in computers and robotics, and was part of Dr. Theo Kirchner's team, until he was murdered--and their robot Rex, and notes and records were all stolen.

Jason Verdine, the head of Verdine Industries, seems very concerned for Eden's safety, but does he really care about her, or just the work she can do for him? There are a few things that Eden has not told anyone: one is that she has a photographic memory and could easily rebuild the robot; the other is that the robot is totally indestructible and can only be destroyed by another robot.

Rex was designed to be used as a medic in war zones, or work with toxic chemicals or rescue people from fires. Who has stolen Rex? Will they realize the threat that Eden poses to their goals? In his work with T-FLAC, Gabriel Edge has been trying to get the information out of Eden so he can build another robot. Gabriel can make himself invisible, and usually he can read minds--but Eden has defenses that he cannot get through. He must try and get into her mind when her defenses are down, like when she is having an orgasm. He starts his attempts when she is sleeping in her Arizona apartment.

Eventually he realizes he must transport her to his family castle in Montana to keep her safe. He does care about her and is trying to resist her--for if she is his "lifemate," she will die--that is the family curse.

Armchair Interviews says: Wizards, curses, a steamy attraction, a brilliant doctor, a robot and terrorists create an edge-of-your-beach chair fun summer read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Putrid, August 19, 2007
This review is from: Edge of Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
I had trouble reading this book with any kind of enjoyment.

First. I do not. Have never. Bought into the love affair that many female american romance writers have with all things scottish. I haven't even watched Braveheart. And I especially abhor the scotts brogue they all love to write. I view it with the same contempt as if they put pidgen english into their writing and we all know they would never dare do that. (A scottish servant features in this story.)

Second. The hero's mission is to retrieve information about a sooper-dooper A.I. robot from the brain of the heroine scientist. The only way he can do this (take a deep breath) is to make her climax because at that point she is off-guard and he will be able to use his psychic abilities to read her mind. I kid you not. But the hero is too principled to do the deed in person so basically he uses his special powers to seduce her psychologically. Other reviewers have used the phrase `mind-rape'.

But all of that pales into insignificance because eventually the plot resorts to the use of magic. (sigh) I cannot believe that an adult author is writing a novel for adults with a plot that involves magic. Magic is not a viable problem-solving strategy. That's why it appeals to children.

I almost wish I was illiterate. Then I wouldn't have read this utter tripe. Another novel that takes too many left-curves. Eventually the reader sees the sheer rubbish of it all.

Readers should be aware that there is a high use of profanities in this novel. They are used as adjectives, adverbs, verbs and nouns. Lovely.

Finally. In the mid-80s Stephanie James (aka JAK) wrote some excellent romances for Silhouette featuring wizards and successful women. They did not involve any magic whatsoever and were all the better for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars PARANORMAL FANTASY ROMANCE, July 19, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Edge of Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
Cherry Adair has moved into the hot fantasy world of wizards, magic, romance and adventure. Her new book, one of three, featuring the Edge brothers is simply fabulous. The sensual romance is very hot and the adventure is simply divine. In other words I loved it!

Eden Cahill is a super hot robotics expert who has developed a super AI called Rex. She is not a very sensual person until she is kidnapped by Gabrial Edge, a wizard for T-FLAC. He transports her to his Castle to protect her from the people who stole her invention. He really just wants to read her brain, but unfortunately she has a block. He also has the problem of being cursed. If he finds his lifemate he will be unable to deny his need for her and she will die very shortly.

Five hundred years ago his ancestor was a cad who didn't marry the witch he had compromised. She cursed his family and now the three brothers have decided to let it end with them, they will never seek their lifemate and if they do find her they will keep far away from her. Problem One Eden is his lifemate. Problem two, her invention is an indestructable AI that terrorists have stolen, Problem Three, there is a wizard killing other wizards and taking their powers. Problem four, the evil wizard is now determined to kill Eden. So if the curse doesn't the wizard will, either way she is dead.

Now it seems all the problems are just one evil man's plan, and Eden and Gabrial must face each and every one of them. I loved it and am looking forward to the next two books, I hope they are as good as this one. Don't miss it.
