Anyone looking for a 500 GB external hard drive for around $100 should look no further. There are a lot of contradicting stories out there on the internet, and if you ask sales people at the major retail chains, you will get equally confusing feedback in regards to what is the best and most functional external drive. Sometimes it takes a lot of research and a bad purchase or two in order to finally get what you want, so if you have already started down that road, do not give up hope. Here is a true shortcut to success and happiness:

The diskGO external drive is REALLY 'plug and play' right out of the box. Just plug the USB cable (which is attached to the drive, and folds away nicely when not in use..) into your PC or laptop and start dragging files onto it. There is no confusing software to install and your PC will recognize the drive within seconds. Another nice feature is that they give you an extension for the USB in case you need more slack, AND it splits into 2 connectors, so you can basically have this drive connected to 2 computers at once.

The factory default file format is FAT32. Do not let this scare you. I have a PC and a MAC and wanted to make sure that I could easily share the external drive between them both. As stated above, there is a ton of contradicting and unnecessarily complicated debates about this. HINT: BUY the diskGO drive!! This drive is 'plug and play' out of the box for BOTH PC and MAC - SIMPLE - nothing else needs to be done. Forget all the mumbo-jumbo about reformatting, or having to set up separate partitions etc... You can easily share this drive between a PC and MAC and the fabric of the universe will remain intact!

One other thing to note: Instead of the often problematic software that comes with most well known drives, the diskGO simply allows you to drag and drop any files you choose with no special set up required. There is also an optional backup solution called 'Dmailer' which enables you to securely upload your backup files to a cloud based server, which is encrypted and password protected of course. I have not tried the Dmailer application yet.

The last HUGE plus about this product, is the company behind it - EDGE TechCorp. Although they may not be as widely recognized as some other sellers, there should be no concern in buying from them. The customer service is 5 star, and the people who answer the phone are polite and courteous. Get this - I made the mistake of putting the wrong phone # on my online order when entering my credit card info. Within minutes I received an email alerting me of the problem. I replied with the correct phone #, and within minutes I received another email telling me the order was confirmed. I then received a phone call from one of their reps just to make sure the order was entered properly. They also followed up with separate emails telling me that the order had been sent to the warehouse, and then again to tell me it had been shipped. Needless to say I received it the next day, I chose to pay a little extra for overnight shipping. (Psst... they didn't charge sales tax, so if this is the case for all online orders, go for the overnight delivery...)

I recommend this product and this company to anyone looking for an external hard drive or any other computer accessories. I only have tried the 500 GB drive, so I can't speak directly for the other products, but if you have any questions - call Edge TechCorp customer service, I am sure you will find what you need.
