3.0 out of 5 stars not what I expected

If you read Deadline and Dominion and are expecting something similar here...DON'T.

This book is like nothing Alcorn has given us till now. Again, I am impressed with his versatility as an author. I did not go crazy over this book. I guess I was hoping for another truly phenomenal murder mystery.

You will like this book if you liked The Chronicles of...

This review is from: Edge of Eternity (Paperback)
This book reads like your worse nightmare and your most beatific dream. Protagonist Nick Seagrave, an ex-Marine, Nam vet, and Mr. Tough Businessman is cast into a surreal world of windows and portals, instantly blending visions of beauty and delight with the horrors of hell. In utter helplessness he is chased by a brutal pterodactyl, cringing in a cave, where he reads a cryptic three-line message: "FORWARD" "RED ROAD HOME" "BE CAREFUL WHO YOU TRUST". His journey through this world of windows, and the people and spiritual beings he meets unfolds the story of the Fall of the Image-Bearers, the Price Paid for Redemption, the lies of the Pretender, and the ultimate Triumph of the King. You will find it hard to put this book down, and be utterly refreshed at the end as you were confused at the beginning. So spiritually uplifting, and a tale to cherish as we walk the red road home.

This is a book I hope and pray I'll never forget. The writing is brilliant and the message compelling. The author has a vivid imagination that he uses to the fullest to present a picture of Heaven, Hell, and the choices we make day by day on this Earth. I couldn't recommend this book more highly to anyone searching for truth or meaning in his/her life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! A must-read!, November 27, 2005
This review is from: Edge of Eternity (Hardcover)
I've read some of Alcorn's books before and found them somewhat interesting. However, I couldn't put "Edge of Eternity" down. After the bible I think this book impacted my life the most. It really got me thinking. Even after a couple of months passages come back to my mind. I've placed Randy Alcorn on my list of favorite authors, with Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, Alton Gansky and C.S.Lewis.
This is definitely a book for those who like fantasy, allegory and out of the ordinary fiction. It really inspired me to keep on following the Red Road home.

4.0 out of 5 stars It'll stick with you!, October 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Edge of Eternity (Paperback)
This was a strange book . . . I was confused at first, then I thought it was a bit simplistic, then I was just in a hurry to be finished with it. But the ending really got me, and I had to sit back and absorb it for a while. Now that it's been over a year since I read it, I find myself thinking back to certain scenes. It continues to challenge me to step up my walk; I plan to re-read it soon, and would recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Out of this World, March 22, 2000

I finished reading this book two days ago and the vivid images burned in my mind from the book are still quite fresh. I felt as though I had just gotten off a roller coaster when I put the book down. The book just drew me in. I was on the planet Thuros walking alongside Nick Seagrave (the main character).

Nick Seagrave mysteriously appears on this planet with a red sun and two moons and embarks on an eventful journey on the red road to Charis. It is very reminiscent of Christian in The Pilgram's Progress. I found it to be very colorful and imaginative.

This book caused me to reflect on my relationship with the Creator of the universe (World Maker, the book calls Him). Edge of Eternity paints a beautiful picture of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection in a way that you would probably never imagine unless you read this book.

Is your Christian life lacking the luster you have seen in other Christian's lives? Are you feeling defeated by the world, your flesh, the devil? Read this book. It may change the way you look at your life. It may change the way you see God.

Excellent book!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a fantastic book!, January 8, 2007
This review is from: Edge of Eternity (Paperback)
When I first got this book I didn't know what to expect, but I was hoping for something good. I got something great! Every time I read something new in this book, I found myself re-examining what I've given to my Lord Jesus, as well as what I've been willing to accept from Him. I think anyone who enjoys fiction and is either a struggling Christian or who just gives "lip service" to the Lord should read this book or be given this book to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Profound, February 25, 2006
This review is from: Edge of Eternity (Paperback)
Incredibly powerful story each one of us should take to heart. Not only does the author successfully portray the spiritual warfare surrounding us every hour of the day, but he also manages to accurately depict how little we are aware of it...only short glimpses, if ever at all. If we truly live what we profess to believe, we would ever be mindful that our battle is not against flesh and blood.

The story is about redemption and the many things along life's road that tickle our interest and divert our path toward truth. Each struggle, each stage of the journey, reflects the issues we all face and we travel through our lifetime here on earth. Getting a glimpse of eternity gives the main character (and each of us) courage for today and hope for tomorrow. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Impact on me, May 21, 2005
This review is from: Edge of Eternity (Paperback)
I read this book a couple of years ago and it changed me. While reading it, I frequently was in prayer about things in my own life that the book addressed. Other than the Bible, it is the book that has made the greatest impact on my life and spiritual growth. I bought several copies and handed them out. I have given away my own copy and had to repurchase it. I have read it three times!

5.0 out of 5 stars Edge of Eternity engages, enriches and stimulates, November 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Edge of Eternity (Hardcover)
Edge of Eternity was my first Randy Alcorn book. It was a challenge to read at first, but then when I picked up on more and more of the imagery for the spiritual metaphors, Edge of Eternity became a powerful and engaging book. I also got the audio book version on cassette. I highly recommend getting the tapes. Listening to the audio touched my imagination and my heart. I feel like I have a greater understanding of who Jesus Christ is, how close we are to the eternal and that we are very much involved in a spiritual warfare. I'm an audio book fan as well as a reader, so I recommend getting both. Either one would be good to give to a friend. "Edge of Eternity" by Randy Alcorn is right up there with "Pilgrim's Progress," in my opinion.
