A good read,

This review is from: The Edge of Forever (Paperback)
Michael Hanson is just an average guy. He was getting out of his car to go to the grocery store when he felt a slight tremor beneath his feet. Michael stumbles but doesn't think anything about the tremor. He is more drawn to the woman in the parking lot. Her name is Cassie McMurphy. Michael feels a strange connection to her. Michael follows Cassie home, where he husband is waiting for her. He is very abusive. Michael rescues Cassie and they run away.
While driving, Michael and Cassie experience another tremor. They think it might be an earthquake but it was too small to be one. Michael is excited as he is going on a cross country journey to visit with his two brothers, Stephen and Mark and their families. It isn't long after the tremors that cites all over the world start reporting abnormities of the extreme kind. Will Michael, Cassie and his brothers survive or will they perish? To find out you will have to check out the next book, The Edge of Forever: Brink of Extinction. Think of the worst disaster both natural and man made...now combine them all together and what do you get...The Edge of Forever. The debut and first novel in the Edge of Forever series by Dr. Jeff Chimenti. In the preface, Dr. Chimenti talks about a tiny blip of geological time that we as humans have probably experienced before but thought nothing of it. These same blips are what the dinosaurs experienced. These blips are from earthquakes. This story will have readers traveling all over from Reno, Nevada to Denver, Colorado. The story is too the extreme and can at times seem way out there but at the same time it is interesting as the story is also based on true events. I thought Michael and Cassie worked well together. The next novel sounds like it promises lots more excitement.

"The Edge of Forever" is about an event that might be the end of life, as we know it.
I was struck with the many cliches in the novel, "bearing her soul," "spit it out," "spilled her guts." This made me feel that the novel was not properly edited and was an amaturish attempt at writing. In addition, the main protagonist was not believable, how this person escaped from a number of situations defied logic. That being said, there was good suspense. Michael Hansen helps a woman pick up some items she has dropped on the street, then a few months later, she waits on him at a restaurant. After talking to her, he learns that the woman, Cassie McMurphy is being abused by her husband, sheriff Kyle McMurphy. An incident happens on the way to her home and when Michael observes Kyle's mistreatment of his wife, he steps in. In San Diego, a scientist tells his friend at the Black Diamond facility, that the earth's moving, the way it has, might be the prelude to somehing that could be worse than the Great Dying of over 250 million years ago. Michael Hansen and his family must find a way to meet and figure out if there is a place where they might be saved from the looming destruction. This was an enjoyable read. Michael Hansen is a Rambo type character, seemingly industructible, but tender with Carrie and is all the things that a big brother should be.

Exceptional Thriller,

This review is from: The Edge of Forever (Hardcover)
In the context of "thrillers", this first attempt by Jeff Chimenti is a winner. I read for the pure unadulterated joy of it and this tome fit the bill without a doubt. It is fast paced but not blindingly so. The book has a natural flow with plenty of excitement. I hate to use a bromide but it is a "page turner". The subject matter represents a new twist. I've read a lot of thrillers and this ranks with the best of them. Believe me, take a chance on this work. It's hard to believe it his first published book. I await the sequel with much anticipation.

One of the best books that I have read in years. Great use of the various characters throughtout the entire book. I read it so fast the first time, that I had to read it again. The scientific research was amazing. The book was a class in history, a class in geological studies, a class in political corruption and a class in love. Can not wait until the sequel. I am ordering copies for my entire firm now.

IndieReader Review,
This review is from: The Edge of Forever (Paperback)
Jeff S. Chimenti's "The Edge of Forever" is a gripping but scary novel about the possibility of a super volcanic eruption from Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. The novel involves three brothers who learn of an impending disaster - a giant eruption is about to lay waste to much of the continental U.S. and release a deadly virus in a secret military underground laboratory - and set out to save their family and friends. Michael Hanson, one of the brothers, is the flawed protagonist still trying to overcome the grief of having lost his wife and daughter in a car accident who meets up with Cassie, a beautiful woman trying to flee an abusive husband. She puts her trust in Michael to help her get her away from her husband and learns about the devotion he and his brothers have toward each other and their families. They get caught up in a political scheme by a crooked senator that attempts to hide, then exploit, the coming tragedy. Much of the book is fast-paced with riveting and heart-stpping action; the science is believable, the characters are multi-dimensional, and the tension in life-or-death situations is authentic and palpable. Warning - there are some violent scenes involving a hit man sent by the crooked seantor to stop two of the Hanson brothers from leaking the story of the eruption before it happens. Chimenti is a medical doctor and can be graphic in describing the hit man's favorite torture methods. The book is still a fine description of heroism in the worst possible cicumstances. The natural disaster described is comparable to what might have wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Reviewed by Steve Maginnis

This book is beyond belief!!! Every page brings intricate characters and events. The storyline arising up to the major earth-shattering event is so riveting and not to be underestimated. Finding a stopping point is near impossible because the book is so well written you will simply want to keep reading. There is so much going on in this book with the character interactions, it is easy to forget the book is about a cataclysmic event. So much of the story is unexpected and realistic making this one of the best books I have read. The only problem is that the second book is not available yet. I am looking forward to the prospect of reading more books written by Dr. Jeff Chimenti.

I REALLY LOVED JEFF CHIMENTI'S BOOK! IT WAS SO GOOD THAT I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!!!! I STAYED UP ALL NIGHT, UNTIL I FINISHED IT. I'VE NEVER EVER DONE THAT WITH ANY OTHER BOOK.
USUALLY, THE BEGINNING OF MANY BOOKS I'VE READ, HAVE BEEN "AGONIZING", BE THEY MURDER MYSTERY OR SCI-FI. IN ORDER TO GIVE YOU SOME IDEA OF THE TYPES OF BOOKS I'VE READ IN MY 60+ YEARS ON THIS PLANET, HERE'S A SHORT LIST: ISAAC ISAMOV, AGATHA CHRISTI, AND JUST ABOUT EVERY BOOK WRITTEN BY JAMES PATTERSON AND GRISHAM, AS WELL AS MANY BOOKS OF FICTION, AND NON-FICTION. I CAN SERIOUSLY STATE THAT JOHN CHIMENTI'S BOOK, JUST TOOK MY BREATH AWAY! THE ACTION WAS TREMENDOUS, FROM THE VERY START. A TRUE MASTERPIECE!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT WAIT UNTIL I CAN GET MY HANDS ON HIS SEQUEL. HE ADDRESSES MAN'S GREATEST FEAR...A FRIGHTENING GLOBAL CATASTROPHE ENGENDERED BY MOTHER NATURE, COUPLED WITH THE CONSEQUENCES OF MAN'S STUPIDITY AS REGARDS THE MILITARY STOCKPILING OF BOTH WEAPONS AND CHEMICAL AGENTS. IT MAKES "APOCALYPSE NOW" LOOK LIKE A SIMPLE FIREWORKS DISPLAY! IN MY ESTIMATION, THIS IS NOT SCIENCE FICTION. IT'S REALLY GOING TO TAKE PLACE. I HOPE THAT I AM NO LONGER ALIVE WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN!!!!!!!!

Spiderwood Studios planning "The Edge Of Forever" being made into a Thriller,
This review is from: The Edge of Forever (Paperback)
After reading the final version of "The Edge Of Forever", I passed the book to several Hollywood friends concerning the possible adaptation of the book into a screenplay. There has been lots of positive feedback. We at Spiderwood Studios are excited about working towards bringing the story to fruition as a "thriller" filled with action, suspense and romance. This story fills the formula for a successful motion picture feature.
The story keeps a reader wanting to know more. I feel the author's writings to be similar to the famous Michael Crichton. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a great and exciting thriller filled with love. Tommy G Warren, Producer/Writer

Loved this book. It is full of scary realism and lots of scientific facts. The author Jeff Chimenti
has a true gift for writing. The characters are very believeable. It is one of the best sci-fi thrillers that I have read in a long time. Love the storyline and the interaction of all the characters, but most especially the love story between the main characters. Can't wait to read the sequel and hopefully see it made into a movie!!!
