MS JENKINS HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!!,
By Jennifer Parker "Green Fire" (Detroit, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Edge of Midnight (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read most of Beverly Jenkins' novel and have yet to be disappointed. I was kind of surprised when I saw that she had written a contemporary novel but because her reputation is so well known for her talent to tell a story, I bought the book anyway. I was not disappointed which really comes at no surprise. I felt like I knew Sarita and Mykal. They are people that I know in my heart. I loved the fact that she kept the story in Detroit, since I'm a native. I especially loved how she incorporated her historical novels with those characters from her contemporary one by making them descendants. I always feel like I'm part of the family when I read her books and she defines the closeknit family unit that is vital to Afrian American culture. And she put Detroit in a good light, though I already knew. The restaurants, the house, the people are not all bad and full of crime EVERYWHERE. And as a native Detroiter, that's what I really appreciated. Madam, if you ever read this, know that you have done it again. May you only soar higher!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!,
By
This review is from: The Edge of Midnight (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book! Sarita has become one of my favorite heroines of all time! And trust me, that list is not crowded. I loved her tenacity, her spunk. More than anything else, I loved how she saw the beauty in the simplier things in life. She was not materialistic nor was she intimidated by Mykal or his wealth. Mykal......hmmmmmm, what a man! He first got me on pages 181-182; whispering to Sarita about the lovemaking they possibly shared in past lives. Mmmmm, made me shiver just reading it! Then when she was trying to prepare breakfast Thanksgiving morning! Oh my!! I know I would never look at that kitchen the same anymore! Sarita made Mykal love her, without much effort. Just simply being who she was, made him see that she was exactly what he needed in his life! I even wanted to cry for him when she was shot. Saint, oh my, Dark, mysterious and sly. Oh Beverly, I SMELL a sequal. Would love to read about the woman who can bring the elusive one to his knees. I loved this book! Beverly, your venture into contemprary is definitely a hit! Keep it up!! Once again, I LOVED THIS BOOK!

Modern or Historical - Beverly Jenkins is a Genius,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Edge of Midnight (Mass Market Paperback)
Beverly Jenkins is an awesome writer. I have read all of her books and can't wait to read future books. I wasn't quite sure that I would like "The Edge of Midnight" when I discovered it would be a modern-day romance novel and not one of her usual historical romance novels, but I should have never doubted Ms. Jenkins. The book starts out with a bang and just get better and better. The two lovers Mykal & Sarita are both strong-willed yet, they compliment each other perfectly and the passion and heat between them radiates from the pages. The addition of mystery, danger, suspense and the great secondary characters make this book a keeper. I can't wait to read Drake's and Saint's story.Of course the fact that the book is based in my hometown is a extra special gift.

The Edge of Midnight,

This review is from: The Edge of Midnight (Mass Market Paperback)
Sarita Grayson is the head of a seriously broken down, yet vitally needed, community center. Unfortunately, the property the center sits on is slated to be auctioned off by the city in a few days. It doesn't matter if the final price is seventeen thousand dollars or seventeen cents, Sarita doesn't have it. She has already poured what little money she has into the center and called in all of her favors. Seeing no alternative, she makes a deal with the devil, actually a gang banger, to save the center.Mykal Chandler is the head of a covert government agency that is working to eradicate the illegal drug industry in Detroit. He's preparing a sting when he catches a mysterious woman, Sarita, in the middle of stealing the diamonds from his target. He's attracted to her beauty and her fire, but he has a job to do. One thing leads to another, and bullets fly, leaving Mykal with a superficial wound. No one gets the best of Mykal Chandler--no matter how intelligent, how beautiful, or how intriguing. In THE EDGE OF MIDNIGHT, Beverly Jenkins has done a masterful job of stepping out of the world of historical romance and into the world of contemporary romance. From the first shot, Ms. Jenkins jumpstarts the romance between Mykal and Sarita then captivates the reader by building on the suspense, sensuality and sexual tension. She definitely has another winner on her hands. Reviewed by Deatri King-Bey

As again, Beverly Jenkins has done it again. I started reading this on a Saturday morning around 11am was unable to put it dowm. I finally completed it around 10:30pm. I was disappointed that I was at the end. The characters were very believable and I was able to visualize everything, I hurt, laughed and cried. She continues to satisfy her readers. I have everything that she has written, and anticipate the release of "The Edge Of Dawn" , I have already purchase a copy thru Amazon.com . I look forward to the experience again ! Of being transported , to another place. Lastly, thank you for mentally romancing me, I feel soo go after reading your novels. It transports me to another place and lets me keep hoping that there is true love out there. S. Shepard, Lithonia, Georgia

I loved this book. Beverly Jenkins is truly a gifted writer. I've enjoyed all of her historic romance novels and wondered if I would like this one as much, and I truly did. I read this book in one day --- just couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next one.

fun war on drugs romantic thriller,
This review is from: The Edge of Midnight (Mass Market Paperback)
In Detroit, Michigan, Sarita Grayson receives an eviction notice that will shut down her outreach gym as the city is selling the abandoned warehouse she has used. Realtor Fletcher Harris offers to fund the down payment towards the building purchase if Sarita picks up a package for him. She agrees, but all hell breaks loose when undercover architect and former special forces soldier (don't ask - read) Mykal Chandler breaks up the action and catches Sarita. She escapes. The next day Sarita's "foster brother" Saint offers her a deal that will enable her to own the building if she agrees to marry his half-brother for one year as he needs a wife of convenience to keep women away from him. When Sarita meets her groom, they recognize one another from last night's activities. She has no choice but to be Mykal's temporary spouse as he runs the NIA war against drugs in Detroit for that is the only way he can keep her safe from gangsters who marked her last night. Neither Sarita nor Mykal expected this arrangement to lead to love. Though the "sanctioning" of the NIA violations of individual rights by the Detroit Mayor and the FBI seems wrong fans will appreciate this terse romantic suspense. The story line moves forward at a fast pace from the moment Mykal and Sarita meet. However, the key to the tale is the cast led by the fine lead couple and supported by his two half-brothers and her friend. Readers will enjoy this war on drugs romantic thriller. Harriet Klausner

A Jewel of a Deal,
By
This review is from: The Edge of Midnight (Mass Market Paperback)
The Edge of MidnightBeverly Jenkins Amazon Rating: 5 Title: A Deal with the Devil Beverly Jenkins takes a break from historical romance novels to show her versatility with a modern suspense romance in The Edge of Midnight. She does not disappoint in providing fun characters in Sarita Grayson and Mykal Chandler. The story tackles the effects of poverty and drugs in the inner city and one very determined young lady to make a difference in her neighborhood. Poor as a church mouse, Sarita Grayson is the director of the community center located on the lower eastside of Detroit. When it looks as if she will lose the center, she takes on a dangerous assignment given to her by a small time drug dealer. Extremely handsome and rich, Mykal Chandler is the handsome brother of the Mayor of Detroit. He is an architect by trade, but his nighttime activities are more dangerous. While out on their respective secret missions Sarita and Mykal have their first explosive encounter. Their second meeting, arranged by Sarita's friend and Mykal's half brother Saint, is a life changing encounter. After accepting his proposition, Mykal gives Sarita the opportunity to see herself as a beautiful woman and awakens a passion in her that she did not know she possessed. The characters in Ms Jenkins' novel are fun. Their actions are genuine and the conversations very real. Ms Jenkins has a way of incorporating conflict resolution and problem solving into the story without making the female character appear weak and cowardly. If you have never read a romance by Beverly Jenkins, then this is a good one to start. However, I would recommend getting your hands on every historical romance novel she has written; you will not be disappointed. Jeanette

Operation Love,
This review is from: The Edge of Midnight (Mass Market Paperback)
Sarita Grayson is what many of her neighbors call a saint in her own right. She ran a community center and she did everything possible to keep the center running. Everything include using her own money but when things get ridiculous she finds herself having to mix with the people she despise the most but with her need of $17,000 to keep her building she is willing to do everything necessary. Sarita had completed the plan perfectly until Mykal Chandler got involved. Mykal considered himself to be the alpha male so when Sarita gets away with the loot and his gun his ego is scorned but worst of all she had shot him.
When Sarita and Mykal come face and face again all hell breaks lose but not before they find their selves in a predicament that makes them mates in all senses but will the two put their disagreements away long enough to make a deal that could save both of them or will their disagreements cause chaos in paradise. Beverly Jenkins tells an exquisite tale about a undercover operation with the mind set of taking back a city and a young women who is determine to make a difference. She does a excellent job weaving the history of other countries into the stories while continuing to hold the readers attention. Mrs. Jenkins provides a sexy and exiting story. Beverly Jenkins' The Edge of Midnight was one of the greatest written romance suspense that I have ever laid my eyes on from the detail description of the cities and the characters to the thoroughness of each chapter. ~Reviewed by Milestone of Platinum Reviewers
