A Beautiful '80s Soundtrack,
By A Customer
This review is from: Edge Of Seventeen: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
If you grew up in the early '80s and loved the popular music of the day -- New Wave, of course -- you're going to go crazy for this great soundtrack. It's a well-chosen collection, going for powerful favorites rather than just the Top 40 hits. For example, the Eurythmics are represented here not by Sweet Dreams but by the upbeat and delightful Right By Your Side. And who remembered to put the seemingly lost hit The Politics Of Dancing on this disc? Fabulous! A great soundtrack for a great movie.

Great as a Gift,

If you have a gay best friend, this is the perfect gift, especially if he/she has already seen the film. I sent this to my best friend and he absolutely loved it and remarked that he was not even aware that the film had a soundtrack. Thanks to my search for the movie, surprisingly available on DVD, I was able to send my friend both the DVD and the soundtrack. He loves them both and acknowledges that he received it in the best condition.

Quintessential 1980s ...,

"Edge of Seventeen" was a wonderful film, in part for the near-perfect way it encapsulated American popular culture of the early 1980s. This soundtrack album does an equally fine job, providing us with a diverse and generally-memorable collection of tunes from that era.The soundtrack includes a few well-known 1980s "standards" (if there is such a thing), but this is significantly more than a "greatest hits" collection. The real reason to buy this album is for its collection of lesser-known selections, including some surprisingly sensitive and evocative tunes that you probably haven't heard in a decade or more. Chief among these is perhaps the georgeous and etherial "Small Town Boy" by Bronski Beat. There's also great stuff by the Thompson Twins, A Flock of Seagulls, and others. Of course, there's also something to be said for the somewhat tackier pop tunes on the album, too. You could, for example, reenact the movie's opening scene by popping this album into your car CD player, cueing up Toni Basil's "Mickey," cranking up the volume, and singing along. Guaranteed to instantly cheer you up!

Great 80's Music,
By A Customer
This review is from: Edge Of Seventeen: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I am not completely sure how helpful music reviews are because one needs to listen to the music first before deciding whether they like it or not. If you watched the movie and liked the songs then you will be happy with the soundtrack because all of the songs that I really liked while watching the movie were on the soundtrack. If you like 80's music then you should definitely like this soundtrack.

I liked the movie. I thought it was movingly sincere and beautifully sullen. The soundtrack is great and includes some of the best songs of the eighties. It brought back a lot of memories. I was young. As I entered my teens, this music was still very popular.Through the early nineties, alternative, pop and grunge took precedence on the radio, at least in NYC. Many of these artists had a couple of hits throughout the eighties. That can't dismiss their importance. These are great songs.

I saw this movie on the LOGO channel and had forgotten some of the great songs during that period. It's a great CD to have for a party.

For those of you who like 80's techo/pop this is the CD that you need for your collection. This "Small Town Boy" is "Wishing (he had a phograph of you)". "The Politics of Dancing" is an "Obsession" making me travel to a "Destination Unknown". "Why" "Mickey" is there so much "High Energy" with "So Many Men, So Little Time". "In the Name of Love" "Modern Love is Automatic" "You are my World" "Right by Your Side". I hope the comments have given you an idea that this is a CD for you.

The soundtrack for "Edge of Seventeen" pumps with beats from the 80's that transport us back to the times when dance clubs and gay bars were the scene. Music from Bronski Beat and Toni Basil, as well as many others, keep the emotion moving as well as adding to the charge that the characters Rod and Eric bring to the screen. The music, like the film, tells the story of one boy's yearning to break free, and this is s soundtrack experience that will be definitely pleasing to fans of the film.
