About the Author

Douglas Schwartz received his BA from the University of Kentucky in 1951 and his Ph.D. from Yale in 1955. A past president of the Society for American Archaeology, he has received honorary Doctorate of Letters degrees from the University of New Mexico and the University of Kentucky. He has been president of the School of American Research since 1967.
