I was in Edinburgh in 2007 and am going again in about 3 months (2010). I love Edinburgh, as it's one of my favorite cities in the world!
Unfortunately there is a lack of good books illustrating Edinburgh, so I was thrilled to find this one! The photographs are very high quality and beautiful! The photographer captures Edinburgh at different times of the day! He did a great job! It's a wonderful book to own!

Looking for gifts to give in person, or to send after the fact, is a tricky problem. Getting the value right, sending something that is memorable or useful, is tricky, not to mention the sex of the recipient.
Being one of the fortunate few to be born in Scotland, I have two gifts that I use exetensivly. This book, is a great gift to send to foreigners showing some of the best of Scotland. It is particualry useful, as our weather leaves a great deal to be desired, and sometimes the photographs and a bit of imagination are required when presented with the real thing on a dreich day. I have used this on many occasions, and have only had praise from the recipients for the content and the insight into Scotland. I recommend it. Furthermore, using Amazon as the vendor, and despatcher, makes the whole affair effortless, though delivery times can be long, especially within Continental North America, but located in Scotland, still effortless. Incidentally, the other book I use is Michael Crichtons' guide to Scotch Whisky, especially to those who drink the stuff, as they can "collect" all the tastes. Dr. Gordon Rankine

A perfect photographic portrait of Edinburgh. Mark Denton is an amazing master of the panoramic photo, so suited to capturing the beauty of this 'fairy tale' city. It is an expensive book, but Amazon's prices help a lot. This is a very large book with almost 200 pages of incredible photographs. When we were in Edinburgh, I looked through all the souvenir books for one to take home. I bought the best one I could find, but wasn't happy with it. This is the book I was looking for. Instead of snapshots taken from a moving bus in the rain (our photos from our trip), I can now sit down and page slowly through this book and revisit the Castle on the Rock, Arthur's Seat, Calton Hill, the Firth of Forth, Princes Street Gardens, St. Mary's Cathedral, the Royal Botanic Garden, the Scottish Parliament building, the National Gallery of Scotland, and all of Edinburgh's other treasures.
