Editorial Reviews

French female singer born in Paris on 19 December 1915 (real name Edith Giovanna Gassion) she was discovered singing on the streets for pennies by Louis Leplee, owner of a cabaret club. During the Second World War she was as important to French soldiers as Vera Lynn was to the British, giving numerous concerts to French prisoners held in Germany. After the war she enhanced her reputation throughout the world, scoring on both the US and UK charts. This album gathers together some of her best known French recordings.
