Product Description

The Edsal SR-100 five-shelf standing shelf unit has a steel rack and shelves made of particle board to support a 500-lb. per shelf capacity and to support a 2500-lb. total capacity when the weight is distributed evenly across all shelves. The corner post tab slots on this unit are punched at 1-1/2" intervals for precise installation of shelves at desired heights. The steel rack has a gray enamel finish to resist corrosion. This unit is open on all four sides to facilitate access to shelf contents from any angle.

The posts on this unit have a two-piece design so it can be assembled vertically to create one 72 x 36 x 18 inch (H x W x D) unit, or assembled horizontally to create one 36 x 36 x 18 inch unit with two shelves, and one 36 x 36 x 18 inch unit with three shelves. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) This shelf unit has a tab and slot design for boltless assembly. Assembly instructions are included. A rubber mallet (sold separately) and small screwdriver (sold separately) are recommended for assembly.

Standing shelf units are commonly used to store items to help create organized, efficient, and safer work areas. These systems typically consist of a frame or rack with open shelves. Added components such as casters, wheels, or handles are used for applications that require mobility. Standing shelf units are used in a variety of office, industrial, educational, and residential settings.

Edsal Manufacturing Company manufactures storage systems and industrial furniture. The company, founded in 1952, is headquartered in Chicago, IL.

I was looking for a heavy duty rack similar to one I bought a few years back. None of the local box stores had it. I saw this one and it looked identical. I decided to take a chance by paying the cost of the shipping (almost doubling the price) and hoping to get the same quality product. What I received was NOT the item pictured and no where near the quality I hoped for. I can't fault Amazon for it not being the same item I hoped for but it should at least be the one pictureed. Bottom line I never would have paid the shipping cost for this item had an accurate picture been posted. It is a bit flimsy and just ok for quality.

Everyone is paying 79 buc_ks for this unit. If you are lucky enough to live near a Mena_ rds big box store, they sell them everyday for forty six ninety nine. During one of their eleven percent sales held several times a year on everything in the store, they are only forty one eighty two. Mine went together quite easily, seemed flimsy at first as others mentioned, but as I added more beams and braces, it stiffened up remarkably! There are eight coupler plates which attach the top half to the bottom half. I drilled two little holes through the leg and coupler plate, one above and one below the joint, on the two 'end of the shelf unit' coupler plates (8 holes total in only 4 of the 8 couplers... the 4 couplers on the two ends of the shelf unit... two holes through each coupler, one hole above and one hole below the joint) to install 10-24 machine screws and nuts. This keeps the top half attached to the bottom half nicely as I pull the shelves around the basement to get them where I want them without the top half separating from the bottom half while I'm pulling them. It would have been nice if the legs and plates came predrilled with a little bag of bolts and nuts to do this job without needing my DIY drill and bolt modifications. The legs do have one hole drilled on one end of each leg(but not the other end for some strange reason) but I installed the legs so that these pre-drilled holes were at the top and bottom of the shelf unit, then used the top holes to secure the shelf unit to the basement ceiling joists with some 12 ga. copper wire, just to provide a bit of extra security against possible tipping, which was a moot point, as once the shelves were loaded... with heaviest items on the bottom and lightest on top, these shelves proved to be very secure and stable on their own...Read more ›

We ordered an “Edsal SR-100 heavy duty steel shelf unit” what we received did not match the picture that is on the amazon.com site. What is shown is a unit with lugs on the shelves that attach to steel corner support angles through pre-punched holes. I ordered this shelf because I have several shelf units that match the one pictured. The shelf units that I have are heavy duty, easy to assemble, and very stable once they are assembled.
The unit that we received had metal tabs on the shelves that were intended to fit into pressed slots on the support angle. Many of the pressed slots were not completely open making it difficult to impossible to fit the tabs into the slots. The metal is flimsy and easy to bend. After several hours of work I got the thing together and it is not very stable. To top this off one of the end supports was ½ inch shorter that the others making it impossible to use anywhere except at the top so that the corner support angle could be bent to allow the tabs to reach the slots. Of course then the particle board infills would not fit.
I’m not returning the unit, because I do have it assembled and taking it down is more trouble than the shelf is worth but I am reporting this so maybe Amazon will replace the incorrect picture and I’m recommending that no one should buy one of these units.

I bought mine locally at a home improvement store for about half the price currently listed on here, its the same model number. On the packaging it says Muscle racks much more prominently than Edsal, I have some bigger more expensive ones too of the same brand I bought a couple years ago that have locking rivets and those assembled much quicker, this one took me probably close to an hour-hour and a half, mainly because several of the locking tabs were bent and I had to rebend and force them in the holes. But in the end the shelves are very sturdy and look nice for a storage or garage type item. I wouldn't have any qualms over putting a couple hundred pounds of weight on a shelf. Some assembly tips, when you do the couplers in the middle to connect the two main pieces, tap the connectors into a new post with a rubber mallet first, then tap the post into the assembled bottom shelf, they go in way easier that way than if you put the connectors in the base and try to hammer a new post onto them. Also when you put in the horizontal bases always make sure to get the top tab in first, and it helps if you put a little pressure on it then then the bottom tab, youre less likely to bend the tabs.
