5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST for just about everyone!!!, July 15, 1999

This review is from: The Educated Caregiver, Three Tape Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been in the "caregiving" business for almost 11 years and this video series was brought to my attention recently. After viewing it, I sat in utter amazement at it's worth. My only regret was that I had not been cognizant of such teaching, advise, moral and emotional support before. The fact is...there just isn't anything on the market like this.

If you are a person who is in the midst of caring for a loved one or see this a part of your future this video is INVALUABLE! I will go another step further and say that it is my belief, as a caregiver of an elderly person(who is not a family member), that these video's are of substantial benefit to anybody who is in this line of work. I have recommended this series to Dr's., nurses, pharmacists, community centers, and individual's whom I think would find it's contents of great help. Each video deals with particular issues concerning elder care or care of a sick loved one. Not only does it provide tips of how to complete certain tasks(i.e. bathing a bedridden patient)but it also gives sound, emotional and professional helps of how to deal with the depression and isolation that often goes along with taking care of another person. There were important topics of instruction regarding issues that I'm sure a lot of families and caregivers fail to even consider. There is valuable instruction and advise from healthcare professionals, as well as testimonies from caregivers and family members who have cared for a loved one.

As a "professional" caregiver, I highly recommend this video series. The cost is almost ridiculously low for such an important training tool. I have to recommend it to anyone who has parents that are getting older, anyone on the brink of needing care themselves, anyone who does this kind of work for a living, any health care professional that provides services to elderly or ill patients, drug store owners, community centers, retirement centers....I could go on and on because I truly feel that this is an important tool and find that almost everyone could benefit from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE EDUCATED CAREGIVER-REVIEW, December 18, 2002

Let's face it-the people we love, those we care for and about are living much longer than ever before. Diseases and illnesses that once would have killed them are held at bay, often for many years. The changes that occur though can be frustrating and frightening for patients, families and caregivers.
The Educated Caregiver video series by Lifeview Resources addresses the issues and needs, allowing the caregiver and patient to take control rather than being controlled by illness. It teaches the skills to provide safe, effective and optimal care, addresses ways to find additional support, help in developing realistic expectations in caring for the patient and caring for the caregiver as well. The videos also provide essential knowledge regarding medication administration, monitoring and ways to prevent mistakes, includes tips on communicating needs and concerns to healthcare providers and deals with all aspects of care-physical, emotional and psychosocial.
This three video set can be viewed in whole, in part as needed, and/or reviewed whenever desired by all involved. It is the most comprehensive, user friendly resource I know of and I highly recommend it to anyone who has ever been "sick enough to be hospitalized," or cared about someone who has.
Reviewer-Carol Tirpak,RN is currently a Critical Care Nurse, but with 33yrs experience, has been involved in and enjoyed working rehab, psychiatry, oncology, home health, administration, hospice
med-surg, and nursing home. She has been certified in nursing administration and presently holds certification in med-surg, oncology and hospice and palliative nursing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for people caring for aging family member, July 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Educated Caregiver, Three Tape Set [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As an administrator of a retirement community, I am always looking for good resources for my staff and my customers. This video series provides the hands on information needed by caregivers in a format that is non-threatening and easy to understand. One aspect which separates this from other similar resources is the way in which stress and emotional issues are discussed in addition to the technical information and skills. This series would be good for spouses and adult children of aging persons living at home or in a long term care setting.
