Rick is the consummate franchise consultant. He exudes optimism, knowledge and first-hand experience. Unlike most books that jump in and tell you how to investigate a franchise, Rick spends the early chapters helping the person prepare for business ownership. He talks about leveraging your natural fear and creating your vision. Without those steps, how can you know if you've found the right franchise?

Then he covers the basics in his "foundational knowledge" chapters, followed by all the aspects of investigating a franchise. He naturally concludes the book with what to expect as a new franchisee.

Like any good teacher, there is a summary at the end of every chapter. Get out your highlighter and Post-it notes because you're going to be using them! There is so much valuable information in here, you'll want to make lots of notes.

This is a book not only to read, but to do. If you're serious about becoming a franchise business owner, then use this book as your roadmap and guide. You'll not only learn volumes about franchise businesses but you'll discover if you have what it takes to be a business owner as well. Thank you Rick.

Having been a franchisee on numerous occasions, I was motivated to read this new book on the market, "The Educated Franchisee". I wish Rick Bisio would have written this book before 1985 so I could have benefitted by his knowledge and observations. His book has a permanent place in my select library of books on franchising. Anyone interested in a franchise business will be well served with this read.

The book is a good motivator, but it is lacking in detail. It seemed a little bit too brief in areas that could use more information. The author makes many good points. There is a lot that someone looking into franchising can learn from this book. I would recommend it as a good starting point.

The Educated Franchisee is one of the best books I have read on the topic of researching and buying a franchise. It's a very easy read, with lots of great advice and practical, real-life examples. I have known Rick Bisio for several years and I personally think he is one of the finest, most professional franchise consultants in the business. Regardless of whether or not you use Rick's consulting services, The Educated Franchisee is a must-read for anyone thinking about taking the entrepreneurial leap and investing in a franchise.

This book is most helpful. Has been of great assistance to me in keeping my efforts focused on my path through the forest, rather than on the trees. The tips, guidance and counsel have been extremely valuable in formulating and working my game plan as I move through this process of deciding franchise ownership.

An indispensable guide for the prospective franchisee, particularly if you're new to the world of franchising (like me), but I'd suspect even if you're an old pro, Rick's no-nonsense, practical approach to selecting a franchisor would be a valuable tool.
It's one of the few "business books" out there that not only conveys the important considerations relevant to its topic but also, methodically walks you through the "how to" do it right.
I particularly was appreciative and attuned to the fact that his work here is about "educating," not "selling" you - something many of us are no doubt a bit cynical or wary of. The soundness of his approach is evident in his advice that after due diligence analyzing the opportunities and "soul-searching" your life's vision/mission, the outcome may be that franchising is not the right decision for you.
As a retiring executive looking for my next challenge, I was impressed with the quantitative and qualitative process that is espoused in his book. After reading multitudes of "business books" during my career, we finally have one here that is equally insightful and useful - a rarity indeed. It is truly indispensable guidance Rick provides the reader who may be making an important life decision... many thanks to him for providing much, much more than a book!

This is the best book on how to buy a franchise that I have read. Since I have been involved in franchising for 25 years I have read many. Someone should not buy a franchise without reading it.

The Educated Franchisee by Rick Bisio is hands-down the best and most helpful book on how to be a successful franchise owner that I've read in 30 years. (FYI - I started my own business 30 years ago and grew it to more than $100 million in gross sales. I just wish this book had been available back then when I was starting out!)

Rick Bisio has business expertise, franchising experience and sincere interest in his readers and clients. He ensures that each step of the way along the path to understanding the franchise world, his reader has simple steps to follow to discover if becoming a franchise owner is the correct decision. He offers insight into understanding the Franchise Disclosure Document and wonderful questions to ask franchisors and franchisees to better understand how the partnership works, challenges ahead and pitfalls to avoid.

Anyone heading down the road to franchise ownership that has not purchased this book is making a big mistake! It is worth so much more than the asking price!

Comprehensive, concise primer suited for anyone contemplating business ownership. Rick's writing style is free of extraneous, self-serving dialogue found in many business books today. You will learn much about business ownership from a man who is a leader in his field and possesses considerable experience in corporate life as well as entrepreneurial ventures. Surprisingly, you will also learn a great deal about yourself in the process.
