Good, but lacks important information.,

This review is from: An Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets-How To Beat Avoid Them (Paperback)
Since this book was written by a police officer and not a lawyer, it's strong on the traffic violation end but weak on the courtroom end of things. For example, it goes into great detail on the different methods used for judging your speed; what to say and what not to say when you're pulled over; different radar faults such as shadowing, bumping, and batching; and what a "tracking history" is. This is great stuff for planning a defense strategy in court. However, this book falters when it comes to legal details. It tells you nothing about the forms you should use before going to court, like the "Informal Discovery Request" which allows you to request a copy of the officer's notes along with an engineering and traffic survey. Failure of the city to provide these documents (which is what usually happens) can result in dismissal of your case - something not even mentioned in Wallace's book. There is also scant advice on what to say in court, and when to say it. I would recommend getting Wallace's book along with "Fight Your Ticket in California" by Attorney David W. Brown. These two books, taken together, will give you a more complete picture, from the traffic stop to the courtroom, of what you need to do to win your case. Despite the title, David Brown's book is invaluable no matter what state you're located in. Brown's and Wallace's books compliment each other - what one lacks, the other one has. I just beat my radar speeding ticket in court today because the arresting officer failed to show up - even though I saw him in the parking lot just fifteen minutes before our court session started! Based on what I learned reading Wallace's book, I realized that the officer had a weak case. And because I sent an "Informal Discovery Request" to the city police department, the city attorney, and the district attorney as recommended in Brown's book, I believe that the officer realized that he would be up against someone who knew what he was doing, and thus he chose not to appear. One weakness in Wallace's book is that it has a lot of needlessly repeated verbiage (For example, "This book is only to be used as a guide..." is found numerous times throughout the book.) and useless generalities such as "You must create doubt in any way to convince a judge to dismiss the case." Also, some advice is of dubious value, like Wallace's suggestion that you follow and videotape the officer as he drives home from his work. Get this book, and Brown's book, and spend a lot of time studying them and planning your defense. You'll have a good chance of beating your ticket in court.

This Book Really Educated Me.,
By A Customer
This review is from: An Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets-How To Beat Avoid Them (Paperback)
I am a 60 year old man who has never had a speeding ticket, and recently got one in Manchester, New Jersey. The officer lied, was rude and I was not speeding, so I decided to fight the ticket in court. The officer also wrote me up for Weaving in a Marked Lane and Having an obstructed rear window, I had a small box in the back of my 83 Buick. Talk about bogus charges. I followed the book all the way through and had every charge thrown out in court. I called Richard Wallace and he called me back and talked and gave me advice for over 45 minutes on a sunday night. He was most polite and helpful. I cant thank him and the book enough. It was very useful in my opinion, and it worked. Worth buying!

Good Book, Easy Read, Great Information, Alot of Value,
By A Customer
This review is from: An Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets-How To Beat Avoid Them (Paperback)
This book read very easy, and was full of information that helped me prepare my case for traffic court in New York a couple of months ago. I only paid $15.95 for this book and beat my ticket in court and saved $120.00 for the fine and I have no idea how much I saved by not having to pay insurance rate increases, so YES, this book worked in my favor. The tip I used which I actually got by calling Mr. Wallace direct in his office after reading the book, was to challenge the officer on his shooting capability since my ticket was issued by an officer using laser. I asked the officer if he could shoot a moving car with his gun and he said maybe, so I continued the questions along that line by asking him how could he be sure then he had the correct car stopped when he pointed the laser gun at me as my car was in a pack of like 6 other cars. The officer told me he believed he was sure it was my car. I told the judge there was reasonable doubt if the right car was stopped and the judge believed it and dismissed the case! What I found most helpful was that if you needed additional help with your case, you can call the author and he helps you out. I highly recommend this book to everybody! You gotta buy it today! It works very well.

I am also a police officer and I reccomend this book to experienced drivers who are aware of their surroundings. If you are in a residential area DONT SPEED! If not, we all should be able to go much faster than posted speed limits. this book lets you do that. I am tired of writing tickets to people that are driving aware and I am forced to get my quota.

LOOPHOLES REALLY DO EXIST!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: An Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets-How To Beat Avoid Them (Paperback)
I got a speeding ticket in Connecticut and the State Trooper was using laser. Following the advice given in the Educated Guide, I plead not guilty and went to court. I showed the judge a copy of the state law that pertained to calibration of laser and radar. In Connecticut the police have to calibrate laser or radar by any means other than an internal check of the operation of the equipment. NOTHING exists to do this with laser as of yet. It is ALL done internally. The judge read the law, talked to the Trooper, and dismissed the ticket. The fine was for $260.00!! There really are loopholes that do work. This book helped me. I recommend it.

It really works,

I just beat my speeding ticket last week by following Mr. Wallace's advice on sending a certified mail to the officer asking for the calibration record, FCC license, training record, etc. The officer didn't have most of it and stated that he didn't get the mail when I showed him the receipt of the certified mail he then said he had some of what I asked for. When we met the judge, He asked to dismiss the case stating that he didn't have the documents I asked for to prepare my case. My case was dismissed and saved me $200 of speeding ticket. I knew I did not speed in the first place and I'm so glad I invested on this book. It's worth the money. I also spoke to Mr. Wallace prior to my case preparation. He has a toll free number and he returns calls...This book is on the top of my list...

Slowing Down is better, if you can't this book is great!,

It's truly great that the author wrote this book. I found it very educating. Even though I have learned to slow down, I found this book to be a very good guide. I remember traveling on some long roads that hardly had any speed limit signs. The author addressed how to fight back if you receive a ticket in cases like this. I know that there are many more important examples in this book but this particular one stuck out with me because of prior experience in traveling long country roads with hardly no speed limit signs and wondering constantly what the speed limit was. Now I know that if I get a ticket in a case like this, I have grounds to fight it. Everyone who drives should read this book whether they speed or not.

GREAT AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND,
By A Customer
This review is from: An Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets-How To Beat Avoid Them (Paperback)
The Educated Guide was very easy to read, follow and understand. I found the book extremely helpful and I was very sucessful in beating my ticket in court here in Florida, because the officer did not have his radar gun calibrated and the judge wanted to see the records, which apparently did not exist. So I lucked out! I also emailed Mr. Wallace at his company website and he responded back to me with some advice via email. I liked that and was surprised how helpful he was.

A HELPFUL BOOK BUT NOT THE BEST,
By A Customer
This review is from: An Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets-How To Beat Avoid Them (Paperback)
I purchased this book along with a few others on Amazon.Com recently. I found this book full of helpful information, but like another reviewer, found that it contained little on how to question the officer in court. From my own experience however, most courts don't give you ample time to present this hour long case, they rush you to get it over. So just be well prepared. This book does have some good information in it though, and I enjoyed the simple chapter on speeding tips, again though, some of them were pretty simple. I use most of them every day myself to avoid getting stopped by the police. There are better books out there, but this one certainly is not the worse. It reads easy and is helpful. You make the decision to purchase it or not. And heck, if you have any questions, give the author a call because based on the other reviews, he seems to personally call people back. How impressive.

VERY HELPFUL,
By A Customer
This review is from: An Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets-How To Beat Avoid Them (Paperback)
Well, having never received a speeding ticket, and wanting to keep my record clean, I decided to take my friends advice and appeal the ticket in court. He referred me to Mr. Wallace's book, the Educated Guide, to help assist me. Well, it did just that. I went to court, and the police officer did not show up...and the case was therefore dismissed, it was easy as that!!! Thanks Mr. Wallace and Amazon.Com for making this book available to people like me who, without the book, would have had no idea how to appeal a speeding ticket in court. And in reading the book, I am now better prepared for any future speeding tickets, should I receive one. Altho I do not agree with police officers writing such books, I am glad Mr. Wallace broke the rule and came forward to help people like me, and explain how greedy the entire speeding ticket industry is from the courts to the insurance companies. For the $19.95 I invested, I saved $190.00 in fines and who knows how much in Insurance company surcharges that I DID NOT have to pay. Again, thanks.
