5.0 out of 5 stars THe best homeschooling resource of ALL time! July 3, 2011
Format:Paperback
Several year ago I was fortunate enough to have stumbled into a homeschooling group that the Clarkson's were part of. At the time I had no idea who they were or about their ministry but I was in need of guidance and encouragement. Homeschooling was so much harder than I thought it would be and we hadn't even made it through our first year in Kindergarten!:) I desperately wanted to do what was right and I felt impressed that homeschooling was the way to go but I was also filled with fear. I tried a boxed curriculum while I tried to read more and understand the different methods of teaching but we weren't able to keep up with the demands of a classroom curriculum and I felt like such a failure.Neither my daughter or I were enjoying the learning process. Sally was kind enough to bring that simple point to light by posing the question and shortly after called me over to give me a copy of her book as she felt impressed to do. I never shared everything with her as far as our situation was concerned and we moved shortly after but this book has had such a huge impact on our lives. It became my friend and constant companion in homeschooling and changed the way we did everything. If you are wavering in your homeschooling endeavors, need permission to think outside the box, or would like encouragement as you disciple and win your children's hearts, this book is a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXcited to see the new edition! June 29, 2011
Format:Paperback
I am a three-year homeschooler. I have used several of the Clarkson's books in my home, both as a parent (re: discipline) and as a homeschooler. I really have enjoyed their fresh perspective and their "Yes, you really CAN do it" encouragement. They are detailed in the books and methods they recommend and are real -- REALLY real!! Based mostly on a Charlotte Mason-bent, this book encourages parents to custom their child's education. With lists and lists of curricula and "living books" and sprinkled with "been there" stories, this book is a great "beginner" guide or just a plain wonderful guide for an experienced homeschooling parent! I "wholeheartedly" recommend it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Helpful Homeschool Book! June 28, 2011
Format:Paperback
I've been homeschooling for going on 5 years, and whenever someone asks me to recommend books to get started this one is the top of my list! Sally Clarkson has spoken at our homeschool support group on many many occasions and each time is more of a blessing than the last. The Clarkson's have successfully reared children who know, love, and are passionate followers of Christ. The Clarkson's have followed God's calling on their life and on the lives of their children, despite (or maybe sometimes in spite) of what the world was calling them to do. You will find this book to be down to earth, humorous, and full of love. Enjoy!
