This review is from: Education in Japan (About Japan, 8) (Paperback)
Mass education has played an indispensible role in Japan's rebuilding after World War 2 and its rise as a developed nation. The educational system is explained here, from primary to tertiary stages. A reader will note that the national government plays the central role, unlike the US, where the various American states figure more prominently.
Reforms are also discussed. These address various defects in the current Japanese system. There is little discussion about private education. It exists but is a very small part of the overall picture.
