5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, Flexible, and Lot's of Fun, March 26, 2007

I saw this game on a list of top 10 games and thought I'd give it try. It turn out to be perfect for my family. The rules are simple and straight forward, but there are so many different strategies that the game really keeps everyone's interest. The game can be reconfigured, which leads to entirely different strategies. If you get bored for some reason, you make your own configuration (i.e., design your own board).

Rumis is really exciting because every move has consequences. For at least one configuration (the Steps), we discovered that you can be trapped and lose on your first move! On that occasion, two players trapped the first three to go and they went on to play each other to the end. This of course never happened again!

Rumis is just as fun with two, three, or four players. The games are short (<1/2 hour), unlike most of the other games my family likes, which are considerably more complex and often require a time commitment of 4-6 hours, so Rumis can be played without losing a big chunk of the weekend. On the other hand, it is a bit addictive and we occasionally find ourselves playing for hours anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkably fun game, January 19, 2007
This review is from: Rumis (Toy)
This game is an instant classic as far as I'm concerned. Feels like a combination of chess and tetris. It is equally fun with 2, 3, or 4 players. The games don't take too long to complete. Despite having no element of chance, each game seems to turn out quite differently. Setup and clean-up are both fast. Little space is required to play compared to most board games. The different boards help provide some additional variety, although this would still be a great game with one board. My wife's favorite game, highly recommended.

I enjoyed the game, although I can only give it a 4 because the element of action simply is not there there. Yes it is fun. Yes it is interesting to watch the various ruins being built, yes it is not exciting. BUT that does not mean it is not a good game! It is rather calming, like watching clouds roll across the sky or water moving along a stream. If you enjoy a game that makes you feel good and calms you this is the one for you. Light a candle, have a cool drink and enjoy the relaxing time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different and Fun, January 6, 2008

This game where you build with stones the way the Incas did is recommended for age 8+ but has proved popular so far with age 7 to 60. Different boards, with different height limitations, vary the game and no "build" is ever the same. Each game doesn't take too long so you can easily play best of 3 or 5. Finding the right stone to fit the space, end up on top of the building (game is scored from the top), and make sure you will be in a position to play your next stone keeps the game challenging. An excellent family board game.
(Player of Carcasonne, Puerto Rico, Settlers, Ticket to Ride, Rummikub etc).

This is a great game for kids AND adults. If you are looking for something not boring to play with the kids this is a good choice. Teaches strategy, and the attractive game pieces are an added pleasure. Well priced and bound to outlast many novelty games. I agree that this has the potential to become a classic. 8 and up age range seems right on. Short and strategic. Adults will not be bored!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ruminating on Rumis, August 27, 2008

Rumis is a creative and fulfilling gaming experience for two, three, or four players who enjoy pure strategy games. It contains elements of Tetris Blokus, so experience with either of these games might serve as an indicator of your potential enjoyment.
The game comes with several different playing cards upon which structures can be built. This provides for many possible scenarios.
I have one suggestion: instead of conforming to the height suggestions in the two-player game, have each player take two colors and alternate turns.

My husband and I play this game. We are both in graduate school and find this game very fun and challenging. It's nice to spend time together, use our brains, and be a little competitive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to learn, fun to play.., December 9, 2009
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

This beautiful game is easy to learn, but quite interesting for the whole family to play (unlike many kids games, such as Chutes and Ladders). My children, from ages 5 to 12, really like it, although it is a skill based game rather than a luck-based game. In general, my children enjoy skill based games that have SOME element of luck to take the sting out of losing. But in this strategy game, they tolerate losing quite well - perhaps because it is intrinsically fun to place the blocks? I have no idea.

Anyway, the game reminds me a little of Connect Four, because you are simultaneously trying to prevent your opponent from being able to place their pieces while positioning yourself to have the most pieces on top when the game ends. The pieces are all shaped differently, and there are a few simple rules regarding where they can be placed. The game comes with several base pages (which guide the placement of the blocks) so there is a lot of variety in game play.

Highly recommended, particularly for visual/spatial learners and those who enjoy games (particularly strategy games).

This game was a last-minute Christmas purchase. We like to open a board game or a puzzle on Christmas Eve, and this was a hybrid. It is now a family favorite. I never write reviews, but I had to for this one. Rumis is a relaxing and interesting game for any age.

Rumis is a great game for all ages...at least I can claim that in our house the age range is from 11 to 75 and everyone enjoys the challenge. It is easy to learn and follow, yet it has varying degrees of difficulty and no two games will be the same.

Building a three-dimensional block with rules for height and width, each player uses numerous odd-shaped blocks to be the one with the most points when you reach the top. There is not only strategy in conforming to the chosen design but in covering your opponents.

It is a very three-dimensional game, played on a turn table and changing at every angle with each turn so it keeps you thinking and rethinking your next move. Games go pretty quickly and can be modified to be easier or more difficult depending on who is playing.

We love Blokus and this is one step upwards. Check out this new twist and I bet you will enjoy it!
