I just received these mineral & rock collections, and I cannot say that I'm impressed. I bought the "Geosafari" Mineral Collection ($16), Sedimentary Rock Collection ($16), Igneous Rock Collection ($16) and the Metamorphic Rock collection ($16). The inner trays are a flimsy plastic; not really suitable for displaying. In addition, the rock and mineral samples are soooo tiny, almost like pebbles. That was really disappointing. I would not recommend these for purchase. Amazon should consider finding a more complete selection presented in quality displays with samples that are at least 1 1/2" to 2" or larger. Thank you.

I purchased the set for my 11 year old daughter. The garnets in one of the samples was most impressive. No the samples are not huge but for a child starting a collection, this is the way to go. It gives them a chance to identify the minerals or rocks and to label them on their own. She enjoyed this the most and she has shown off her rocks to family and friends. The case is not for displaying the minerals but as a geology major in college, I can say the prices are reasonable for the products. I know some of the samples alone would cost more then $16 if the samples were larger then they are. The sizes are around 1 inch for each peice in the sample my daughter recieved.

If you are looking to introduce your children to starting collections, this is a great toy. Comes with a storage tray in reusable box if you don't want to invest immediately in collector boxes. Each rock is identified and has facts about it. Has all 3 sets of rock types so you can "grow" the interest.
