We shopped around for a while to find a calendar whiteboard that would work for us. We ended up going with this one, mostly because it had the largest day-squares of any relatively inexpensive calendar whiteboard (if you need one any bigger than this, the price goes up dramatically). The squares on this one are about 2 inches, which is enough to put a few items if you get fine point pens.
There's only one pen included with this board. It's black, and it actually doesn't erase very easily, but that's good because if you use it to write the dates in, you can't accidentally erase it while adding schedule items. We bought a set of 4 whiteboard pens to go with it, so everyone can have their own color, and they erase much more easily. One thing that surprised us when we opened the box is that the color-coded squares on the bottom are not color-coded to start with. We assumed, given that the colors neatly matched the four magnets provided, that they would be permanently marked so you could just fill in the meaning on the appropriate line. Unfortunately, you have to do the filling in yourself, which is annoying because most 4-packs of pens don't come with yellow (most are black/red/blue/green). This whiteboard is just a thin piece of metal with a plastic coating on the front, so it's not terribly sturdy. It should get mounted on a wall and left in place (i'm not really sure what else you would do with a whiteboard, but amazon categorizes it as a toy, so maybe i'm missing something).

This calendar is great for teaching young kids about months, weeks, and days. The squares are large, so you have plenty of room to write appointments, such as play dates and soccer practice so kids can look forward to upcoming activities. I ended up drilling holes in ours, and screwing it into the wall studs so that the kids can't pull it down. It's great for educational purposes, but don't expect a professional quality whiteboard/calendar.
