4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but with limits November 1, 2010

My boys are really into Star Wars right now and to have a "light saber" that actually lights up is wonderful. But my boys are tough on these swords -- they aren't just for show! They "fight" each other with them, they fight "droids" with them (i.e. - the vertical blinds), and otherwise beat these things to death!

These swords are inexpensive for a reason, though. The plastic handle will break when abused. The electronics are easily disconnected. I have bought and inexpensive soldering gun so that I could repair some of the loose connections. The LEDs tend to lose their connection the most, which results in a sword that only lights up halfway. Nonetheless, the electronics are simple and easy enough to repair should the sword get shaken violently or beaten against something ... repeatedly!

I would recommend this product, but be advised that you will be getting an inexpensive item.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for Light, Bad for Fight July 22, 2011

I bought these sabers because I was going to a rave-party and wanted to put on a show. Turns out, they were pretty good for this, but I wouldn't recommend dueling with them. With enough force, the blades will break right out of the hilts and the LED connections will snap.

Pros
-Bright. They have a string of 22 LEDs inside each blade.
-Small enough to dance around with or for little kids to hold.
-Come with batteries and an access panel to replace them once they run out.
-Good base to start modding off of. The whole thing is put together with screws and easy to disassemble. The blades are a much sturdier plastic, similar to detergent bottles and won't break easily. The handles and LEDs are what you have to be careful with. I'm replacing my handles with custom PVC ones, and cushioning the LEDs with some hot glue.

Cons
-Relatively fragile. Not for dueling even with handle replacement. The LED string inside the blade won't hold up to constant beating.
-Evenly spaced dimmer areas on the blades from LED spacing. I was ok with this, but depending on the application, you may or may not be.
-On/off button is easy to push on accident. This isn't too big of a deal if you're careful, just something to consider.

As far as price goes. The price is ok. About 18 bucks with shipping for three sabers. You'd spend way more in time and materials trying to make swords like this yourself. I would've been happier spending less, but at the same time, I'm ok buying another set, paying the same amount.

Have fun!

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke within 15 MINUTES! March 2, 2012
These were HORRIBLE!!!! I honestly have no idea how people can give these more than maybe 2 stars. My 6 year old got them for his birthday, and he was SOOO excited! I loved that there were 3, one for him, his younger brother, and their father. They were all different colors, so easy to tell whose was whose. But, with in 15 MINUTES the blue one was dead, unless it was dropped. Then it lit. But as soon as it was played with again, it was out! My guess is that the wires aren't connected or there's a short in it. But when you hold the saber, you can just feel that they're going to break soon! The wires jiggle around and there's just not really ANY quality here. Don't buy! You're better off getting some real light sabers from Walmart or other places here on Amazon. Otherwise, you're just wasting your money!

I got these as a prank for my wedding. The groomsmen love them. Not the sturdiest lightsabers.......you should not hit them together......but they're great to pose with.
