Excellent Reference On Current Teaching Challenges,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice (8th Edition) (Paperback)
This was a text book for my now completed first education class, "The Diverse Classroom". We did not have to read the entire book, just Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 12, so I base my review on those chapers. This book is rich in detail on the challenges faced in contemporary classrooms. It is well written, and has very complete and thorough references. In addition to raising awareness of key issues, it provides many practical suggestions for application.
The other text book for the class was "Introduction to the Foundations of American Education" by James A. Johnson, et al. That book was not as good by comparison; it was much too preachy.

I had to buy this book for one of my university's special education credential classes, but the book's a definite keeper. I find that I learned more about what I need to know to do my job from this one textbook than from all my other textbooks combined. At least that's what it seems like most days!

Eductional Psychology not boring?,
By
This review is from: Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice (Paperback)
This was course material for my course in Ed Psych as part of my Bachelors degree. Prejudice made me think it would be boring and uneventful. On the contrary I have found that it is well written, with clear examples and continuous and consistent internal referencing and clear examples. Mr. Slavin refers to "intentional teaching" throughout the text. The text and its setup has been cleverly pegged to this theory, leaving me with a thorough understanding of educational psychology for a starter in the field. This should be obligatory reading for any teacher, if not the ones I have had over the years who could have done myself and other students a favour by studying it before standing in front of a classroom.

Good textbook for ed. library,
By
This review is from: Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice (Instructor's Edition) (8th Edition) (Paperback)
It is a tough book, but accept it as a good read since it is probably required for a certain class you need to graduate. It is a book that you should buy used, if possible and be able to keep it as a useful reference for your personal library. From what I hear, the 8th edition is just as good as the 9th edition.

A Well-Written Psychology book,
By ACCSCH "Anita" (Olney, Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice (with MyEducationLab) (9th Edition) (Paperback)
Educational psychology was the 4th psychology course I have taken. Slavin's text was the most interesting and well-written psychology texts that I have used to far. It makes the theories interesting to read and is also full of information that is very pertinent to the classroom. The book is very current for the modern classroom. We didn't finish the entire text in the summer course that I used it for, but I'm still planning on reading the entire book.

This book was an excellent reference book. I bought it for a graduate-level introduction to educational psychology and have used it many times since. Slavin cites well-known studies and a variety of sources. I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in educational psychology, even if they are not in a class.

I want to let anyone looking for a textbook on educational psychology to know how great this particular one is. It is well organized and easily read( the font sizes are great). The author is clear and concise, he has put definitions in the margins so that the reader does not have to go searching for them. He has filled the book with practical advice for the classroom and for future teacher certification.

This is a title in which all teachers should grab while it's still available. Slavin does a tremendous job in putting together the foundations of Education and the proven methods on how to work within your classroom. When also pairing this text with a equally amazing professor this is a great tool.

This book was in mint condition. I was surprised when I received the book. This was my first time ordering a used book from amazon. It didn't seem used at all.

This textbook, like so many other education textbooks, is heavy on the theory part and light on the practice part.
