I purchaed this magnetic maze for an upcoming 6 hour airplane flight I will be taking with my 27 month old son. I was looking for smallish (to fit in his backback), QUIET toys that would keep him busy for extend periods of time so that he'd not disturb other passengers. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. It is a durable wooden toy (does it get better than wooden toys?) that has a self contained magnetic pen (which is quite strong!) which moves small magnetic balls through a maze to be placed in the appropriate colored block on the turtle's shell. I really love the fact that there is one ball for each color and that there are light and darks of the blues and greens... Not that my son doesn't know his colors (he is 2!) but it is always nice to work on mastered skills whilst introducing new ones like the fine motor skills necessary in moving the balls through the maze. Durable, educational, quiet, something he can do on his own, perfect for travel!

On a side note, may I also suggest a book on turtle's, their colors and a lovely messsage about inner beauty to accompany this maze?! I found an adorable one entitled: Limu: The Blue Turtle by Kimo Armitage. What a hit to use in tandom with the maze!

Best Wishes.

This toy is simple, durable and interesting for kids from about age 1 to 7. It's a good toy to keep in your car for emergency distractions as it requires no batteries or set up.

I love this toy... I love all well-made wooden toys. I had high hopes that it would keep my kids engaged while we were out and about, but sadly my hopes were failed. They each played with it for a total of five minutes and the novelty was over. I regret this purchase since it's a rather expensive toy considering. Better luck next time.

I got this to entertain our daughter on a flight but I didn't realize how bulky and heavy it would be (my own fault for not checking, I know). It's great, though, she loves it and it keeps her busy for at least half an hour.

i own another magnet maze puzzle by melissa & doug and wasn't too impressed with it. however this educo one is great. the magnet is strong enough to hold the balls, it's made out of wood, and extremely well made.

We bought this for our playgroup and before it got there our kids played with it. They loved it and its a great way of teaching colours and pen grips and fine motor skills. The item is solidly built and well constructed. Definitely a quality item and will last for years. A year on at playgroup with up to 60 kids per day going there and its still in great condition.

I like that this is a little smaller than some - easier for little hands to manipulate. The part on the end w/the magnet attached does come off easily, so we just hot glue gunned the pieces together so we wouldn't lose it.

We have had this maze/puzzle for 2 years now. When we first got it my oldest son was 3 and he was not able to move the marbles on his own, but enjoyed watching us do it. Now at 5, he delights in getting the marbles into their respective compartments on his own. Our youngest, now just 10 months loves to shake it and watch the balls roll around inside (and of course suck on the wand). I was a little surprised that the magnetic wand is removable and was sure we would lose it, but it stays together well and to date it has not gone missing. Having had this around the playroom for years I would not hesitate to purchase it as a gift in the future. It is so nice to have a low tech, wood construction toy to give in the day and age of electronics and plastic.

Those darn balls won't listen to the magnet wand. I've tried it my self so many times and can't seem to get a single ball to move beyond 3 inches. I've tried to show my pre-schooler how to use it as a ball maze but it is now being used as a noise maker (shake..shake) instead.

I bought this for my 2 year old grandson. He was very interested, but the stylus comes loose from the string, and without it, no magnet. So he has dropped it somewhere, and when and if we ever find it, he might enjoy the toy.
