From the Manufacturer

The 6 sided Shake'n Match Shape Sorter provides excellent educational value. Included colored shapes are a circle, square, trapezoid, triangle, star and half circle. The shapes are filled with beads, and can be removed from the sorter through stretching the orange elastic at the top or bottom, or through the cutouts on the sides. The Educo brand has meant quality and innovation in toys for over 30 years.

3.0 out of 5 stars questionable quality... but Educo offered to replace! August 25, 2011

Yes, it's a wonderful concept, and could have been executed beautifully. You would expect so, for the price.

However, the painted plywood is full of jagged edges and splinters. The kind of care that goes into a PlanToy or other wooden toys that parents shelling out this kind of money for non-plastic have grown accustomed to, sadly, is absent in this toy. I don't know if this has always been the case, or if they've recently chosen a cheaper manufacturer who isn't executing to Educo's standards, but it's certainly the case with the toy I just received.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Shape Sorter! January 22, 2011
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The Educo Shake `n Match Shape Sorter is perfect in so many ways. It is made of high quality materials and is the perfect size for small hands.

The problem I have with most sorters is that they have removable lids that my genius child likes to... remove and then easily put the different shapes in a big gaping hole rather than using the actual cut outs. This sorter is different and might I just add genius. The opening for you to remove the different shapes is blocked by an elastic band that easily moves to the side when you want to get the shapes through it, but stays sturdily in place with you want them to stay in.

Another thing I love about this sorter is that the shapes are color coordinated so that the circle shape matches the circle cutout. This aids my little guy in matching them up and gives you the opportunity to teach colors as well as shapes.

Each shape is filled with little beads that jingle when you shake them and make the "toy" that much greater.

Did I mention it is made of wood? That is always a big plus in my book!

All in all, I am give this shape sorter 5 STARS because my little boys love it! Elliot enjoys the challenge of fitting all the shapes in the sorter and Hudson loves the rattle it gives when he rolls it!

This product is made by a company called Hape which I am quickly falling in love with. All their toys are educational and beautiful! They might just take the place of Melissa and Doug in my heart... might... I will let you know.

an amazing shape shorter toy. it's beautiful. it's well built and lightweight (so it's easy for little ones to pick up). it's fun. i am very pleased with this toy. the colors are vibrant and chip proof. i also love how the blocks have beads in them and make noise. my son is 11months so he hasn't mastered putting the shapes in the holes yet but he does play with this toy every single day for at least 30mins. he likes pulling them out and putting them back in the same way. i find other toys stuffed inside as well. he enjoys shaking the blocks.

We got this for my 15 month old son and he loves it! I wanted a really nice wooden shape sorter that would keep his attention and this one did the trick. He loves the shapes and that they make nose. he loves to try to fit them into their holes. Its also a very sturdy toy. I've caught him using it as a stepping stool to reach things on the table! And its not enormously huge either which is always a plus :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Potentially Frustrating, But Definitely the Best June 1, 2011
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This shape sorter is the only wooden non-toxic version that doesn't have an easily removed lid. At first our 11-month son was frustrated because getting the pieces out of the side takes some dexterity, but that in itself turned into a learning experience. He loves to shake the toys and so far they have remained impervious to much banging and sliding. I do find the other wooden shape sorters more attractive, but in the end this one offers more educational opportunities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent shape sorter with one caveat April 27, 2011

My son (11 months) loves this toy. He literally carries the shapes around with him wherever he goes. In fact, it has inspired a whole trend of "does this fit?" games with all sorts of objects in the shape sorter (and in other containers, too). He is just starting to be coordinated enough to fish the shapes out of the sorter on his own and can put the shapes into the sorter with a little guidance (He doesn't get the "only some of the faces have the target shape" concept yet, so he can't put the half-circle into the correct hole unless he is holding it with the half-circle facing out.). My only objection is that the hexagon fits into the cylinder hole. Otherwise, it's a perfect toy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Paint Flecks Off January 15, 2012
Durability: 2.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
My little guy has had this toy for a year or so now. Like others noted, he first shoved all of the blocks into the end without it serving an purpose at all. Over time he's learned to sort them into the appropriate hole. The real downside to this toy is the paint. It just doens't stand up to the kind of use that a toddler with put it through. In all fairness, only one brand that we own has done so. I can't recommend Haba highly enough in that regard and I'm not sure what the difference is that no other wooden toy manufacturer can see to match it. All in all, my little guy loves the toy. It is obvious at a glace that it has seen quite a bit of use. I just wish the paint was more durable.

I absolutely love this toy. Bought this for my daughters first birthday. The shapes have little beads in them, and she really enjoys shaking them like a rattle. It's built VERY well. It doesn't look like it will ever fall apart. She will be able to play with this for many years.
